Production Planning and Material Control Manager DESCRIPTION General Summary: Our dynamic microelectronics factory is looking for a Production Planning and Material Control professional who is hands-on and capable of managing production planning, scheduling, and inventory utilizing a modern ERP system. The candidate must be APICS certified and have extensive experience in the Aerospace/Defense Industry. The candidate must possess the ability to manage, plan, and execute production schedules in a small quantity, high-mix military and space “custom job-shop” environment to achieve 100% on time delivery. You and your team will perform planning activities required to achieve production objectives in the manufacturing facility by coordinating the flow of materials, parts, and assemblies, and schedule and prioritize jobs to meet the customer’s needs. This manager will also develop long term production plans utilizing all available data and will interact daily throughout all levels of the organization. The Production Planning and Material Control Manager is directly responsible for the areas of Production/Inventory Control, Planning, Receiving, Shipping/Packaging and Warehousing, SFC, Inventory levels and revenue forecast execution. He or she will perform work operations within material standard operating procedures, policies and goals within production control and directly related operations involving planning and scheduling, expediting, inventory control, customer order filling and release, and company billing operations. He or she will analyze all phases of WIP (work-in-process) and make judgments regarding work force adjustments and follow-up action. They will develop changes where production control and related policies and procedures are inadequate, and insure all required processes are documented and up to date and all assigned personnel are trained to the released procedures. REQUIREMENTS Education Requirements: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Business Operations or other relevant discipline. An Associate’s Degree is acceptable but must be supported by at least five years of applicable experience. Experience Requirements: Proficiency with computer automated scheduling systems (ERP system). Minimum five years’ production planning, scheduling, and material control experience in a Military/Aerospace hybrid environment or comparable equivalent. Effective written and oral communication, organization, and interpersonal skills; ability to review and interpret concepts and to communicate necessary actions and requests clearly and concisely. High regard for respect in the workplace with good ethical and moral judgment. Familiar with short interval shop floor scheduling and kitting that is characteristic of job shop manufacturing. APICS certification. Ability to be flexible in a dynamic work environment. Working knowledge of ERP/MRP principles and materials management. Extensive knowledge of Bill of Manufacturing/Materials structures and routings. Knowledge of Production and Purchasing functions in a Manufacturing Environment. Strong understanding of entire flow of production from kit pulling to processing finished goods. Working knowledge of flow of Engineering and Engineering Change Order requirements. Strong oral and written communication skills, must have the ability to communicate at all levels and have great interpersonal skills. Attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, self-motivated, ability to handle high volume workload, and changing priorities in a high paced department. Understanding of Military/Space standards and specifications, documentation and traceability requirements. Other Requirements: Candidate must be a proficient technical writer and communicator. Responsibilities and Preferred Experience The following responsibilities of a Production Planning and Material Control Manager include but are not limited to the following. Plans, prepares, issues, and controls production schedules and material requirements to ensure a controlled flow of approved materials to meet production requirements. Develops and maintains reports relating to process, product and operation on-time performance. Advises management when ontime order delivery is in jeopardy. Works daily with peers and superiors developing the maturity of the production planning systems in support of business goals and a continuous improvement initiative. Correlates planning and scheduling of orders with machine loading and labor availability to obtain optimum utilization of equipment, efficient allocation of labor, and on-time delivery of products. Evaluates production statistics and their impact to the production schedule. Reports major variances from plan to appropriate management personnel along with a course correction action plan for managing issues as they arise. Revises and reschedules shop orders when necessary. Coordinates sub-contracted orders through the purchasing department. Performs physical counts of raw material and work in process (WIP) inventory, identifying and solving inventory variances. Confirms and releases work orders and prepare shop travelers, including: Verification of material availability Printing of travelers, drawings, and additional documents when necessary to support the manufacturing process. Reissuance of materials based on unexpected yield variances Responsible for Kitting and inventory of raw stock. Other duties as assigned by the department Manager. Responsible for planning, releasing, monitoring, rescheduling, updating and closure of assigned work orders. Assist Manufacturing Engineering in the design and creation of bills of manufacturing/materials. Assist with work center setups. Attend regular Operations meetings to develop priorities which are in line with Sales requirements. Capture necessary communication on BOM to be relayed to Operations through w/o release. Participate in the ECO process for necessary changes to structure or routing of product due to manufacturing requirements. Track in-work product. Plan outsourced subassemblies and coordination with Purchasing. Analyze complete work orders to verify labor and material posting, closing and retaining work orders. Using ERP, report capacity required, including overtime needs, per build schedule and business planning. Daily review of sales order open bookings to have product prepared in advance of ship day. Daily review of dispatch to ensure on-time and accurate processes of transactions between operations. Configure and review variant process requirements and ensure their accuracy throughout the build process. Participate in cost reductions and productivity improvement programs. Work pro-actively, on a daily basis, with the manufacturing supervisors, procurement and other departments to ensure schedules are maintained.
