Currently in its second season of production, it offers a look into the fast moving and technologically advanced world of the 1980s computer industry. Shadowing the production designer, the wintern will have a behind the scenes look at how the art department conceives, develops, constructs, and executes "period" scenic environments that enhance storytelling, embrace character, and draw the viewer into the world of Cardiff Electric as it challenges the industry heavyweights for a place in digital history. Confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements will be required. BOSTON BBK Worldwide – Boston/Needham BBK Worldwide provides patient recruitment – innovative marketing communications strategies, programs, and technologies designed to streamline the enrollment of clinical trials in order to accelerate time to market for new and improved medicines and treatments. Using a wide range of advertising and other tactics, BBK advocates for patients, increasing their access to and understanding of healthcare issues that affect their daily lives and related clinical trials that may offer them treatment options. Emerson Hospital – Concord, MA Our Tufts wintern will report to Leah Lesser, public relations manager of Emerson Hospital, and will be based out of the Marketing and Public Affairs Office of Emerson Hospital which is located in an office at 310 Baker Avenue, Concord, MA, a short drive away from the main hospital. Lesser is responsible for working with the media to attain positive press stories about patient care at Emerson Hospital, as well as health and wellness events, some internal communications and communications with physicians and medical staff. Sample projects include: · Drafting press releases to generate media coverage about upcoming health and wellness events · Drafting stories about maternity care, such as Emerson’s New Years’ baby or babies · Updating and expanding Emerson’s media list which is essential for ongoing press coverage · Drafting physician bios and other press materials Emerson Hospital is a multi-site health system headquartered in Concord, Mass., with additional facilities in Sudbury, Groton and Westford. The 179-bed hospital provides advanced medical services to more than 300,000 individuals in 25 towns. Filmmakers Collaborative – Waltham, MA – 2 Winterns Filmmakers Collaborative (FC) is a national nonprofit media organization that encourages and supports the making of great films and media projects by people of all ages and experience levels. Based in Waltham, MA (accessible by commuter rail from Porter Square station in Cambridge), FC provides grants management, mentoring and workshops to a diverse and national community that includes award-winning PBS documentarians, first time producers and directors, and young people just discovering the power and potential of visual media. In 2013 FC launched the Boston International Kids Film Festival, in partnership with Tufts University's Communications & Media Studies program. The 2nd Annual BIKFF takes place in Somerville, November 7 to 9. We are looking for two Tufts winterns who can help us expand our network of festival sponsors, partners, advertisers and attendees; find schools and organizations to host film screenings and workshops during the school year; organize and edit footage and photos gathered from the 2014 BIKFF; and provide administrative support to FC. As far as possible, we will tailor the job to the students' expertise and interests. Hill Holiday – Boston – 2 Winterns The Consumer & Business Intelligence (CBI) team is a group of data scientists, behavioral economists, consumer psychologists, and cultural anthropologists who build models, conduct field studies, crunch data, and solve mysteries. LOS ANGELES Bona Fide Productions – Los Angeles – 2 Winterns Bona Fide Productions is a Los Angeles-based company that has produced films such as Little Miss Sunshine, Little Children, Election, Cold Mountain, King of The Hill, and Ruby Sparks. The wintern's responsibilities include reading scripts and writing coverage, watching films and actor/director reels, doing research projects, answering phones, and light administrative work. The wintern should have an interest in independent film, be able to multitask, and be Mac-proficient. Pluto.TV – Tech/Ent. Startup – Los Angeles Pluto.TV is a Los Angeles-based technology-entertainment startup. It is a new TV platform that combines the familiar living room experience with the fast-growing world of online video. Pluto.TV curates the best content available online, both digital and traditional, into 100-plus HD ‘TV channels for the Internet.’ The wintern will be actively involved with curating content for broadcast, sitting in on creative development meetings and creative projects to develop a new channel or series on Pluto.TV (TBD by the wintern’s interests). As Pluto.TV is a tech company, the wintern should have an interest in entertainment and the internet. This is not traditional Hollywood, so if that kind of experience is desired, other opportunities may be more relevant. Wintern must provide their own Mac or PC, and understand how to use Google Docs. NEW YORK CITY AREA Bustle.com – New York City – 3 Winterns Bustle is a news, entertainment, lifestyle, and fashion site driven by a diverse and energetic collection of contributors. We're looking to redefine what "women's interest" looks like. The intern will work directly with editors to conceive, pitch, write, revise, produce, and ultimately contribute two to three posts to her assigned vertical each day. This is a very writing-intensive internship, and interns should have a proven writing background, as well as a vested interest in the subject matter. The intern will come away from the internship with an idea of how to work with an editor at a web publishing company, as well as a small portfolio of published clips. Charlotte Sheedy Literary Agency – New York City CSLA is a boutique literary agency in the Flatiron area of NYC. Clients include Lemony Snicket/Daniel Handler, Maira Kalman, Eve Ensler, Mary Oliver, and Stephin Merritt. The workload varies by the day, but the wintern will be shadowing Tufts alumna Amy Rosenbaum, accompanying her to author events during the evening. The wintern may also be able to visit a publishing house to see the "other side" of the business. Rosenbaum will be available for "Publishing 101" sessions at lunch, and intends on making the winternship as “fun and informative as possible.” GREY New York – New York City Grey is a full-service advertising agency for the 21st Century that delivers brand communications in every channel. Amid constant change, the company maintains a single focus: to accelerate the potential of clients’ brands with powerful, creative ideas. The wintern would work with the music department, which is involved with all aspects of the agency's creative musical offering. Institute Studio – New York City Institute is a new creative studio founded by Tufts alumna, Antonella Scarano, who hails from ad agency production on brands such as Mini Cooper and Columbia, and also with creative director Nathaniel Brown, who has directed projects for a multitude of fashion brands ranging from Alexander Wang to Barney’s, and projects for Kanye West, Beyonce and Jay-Z over the past ten years. Recently, Institute has directed and produced a short film for designer Morgan Lane, the VMA performance for Beyonce, and a printed magazine for John Elliott + Co. As a newly founded agency, the focus is on throwing out the old rules for how things should be seen by the public and new ways to consume and digest information. The wintern will gather hands-on experience working in the creative industry and assist with both visual and logistical research, formulation of treatments and proposals, productions and more. Seftel Productions – New York City – 2 Winterns Seftel Productions is a boutique production company that produces award- winning documentaries, feature films, commercials, and digital media. Dedicated to creating artful, engaging work with a social conscience, our productions have appeared on HBO, PBS, A&E, Bravo, Showtime, and many others. Recent highlights include the ongoing Emmy and Webby-nominated PBS series The Secret Life of Scientists, the Telly Awardwinning 13-part series for Public Television Invitation to World Literature, the acclaimed PBS series NOVA Science NOW, and the PBS prime time mini-series Lidia Celebrates America, featuring chef Lidia Bastianich. Interns will work closely with the company’s core staff in four areas: 1. Development: Assisting with projects in development. Tasks include performing essential research, writing script coverage and helping to keep projects organized. 2. Production Management Support: Helping our production manager to execute shoots. Tasks include preparing call sheets, booking travel, expense reports, location research and obtaining permits. 3. Daily office tasks: General support in keeping our office organized and productive. Tasks might include filing and making runs. 4. Archival research: Assisting our archival researcher in finding and organizing photos and video content. Requires an inquisitive mind, a diligent eye for detail and a creative eye. Tasks include tracking down photos, organizing files and seeing projects through to their completion, including legal shutdown and paperwork. One of the Tufts winterns will work with the staff of MetroFocus, a multi-platform news magazine focused on arts, culture, and life in the New York region. The other wintern will work with MMG Arts. As an innovative business initiative of WNET, MMG Arts is a centralized database of arts programming that provides public television stations throughout the nation with a series of broadcast and web platforms, including video segments, scripts, and more, which independent stations can use to develop their own unique weekly art programs. Young and Rubicam (Y&R) Advertising – New York City – 2 Winterns Young and Rubicam Advertising is a major marketing communications firm looking for a dynamic candidate to shadow one of its strategists for the week. The wintern will be asked to pull together some information while they are there, using Young and Rubicam research sources. The right person will have curiosity about people and their behavior as well as an appreciation of popular culture and an interest in marketing and creativity. The wintern will be asked to prepare something to share with Young and Rubicam staff in January. They should bring a point of view about consumer products or service brands that they feel have done something in digital or social media to connect really well to college students or other young people. WASHINGTON, DC Christian Science Monitor – Washington, DC The Christian Science Monitor is looking for a wintern to help with its new section on security and privacy in the digital age. The section, called Passcode, will be launching sometime in January. The internship will be shadowing Passcode's deputy editor, Sara Sorcher, and assisting with coverage on cybersecurity and Internet policy issues in Washington, D.C. This will also be a chance to go behind the scenes on what it's like to launch a new media project. We're looking for someone preferably interested in covering technology, security, and/or Internet issues. There will also be opportunities to network with other Washington journalists at the Monitor and elsewhere.
