Club Alternative Spring Break- Delinda(see attached)
Spring break option #1: Delinda gives an overview of the alternative spring break trip to Ashland, Oregon. This
community service based trip will have a minimum of 10 hours of community service as well as fundraising to qualify.
Delinda urges students to attend information sessions to receive more information about the trip.

Alternative spring-break Washington D.C.-Mandy
Application discussed along with fundraising and community service requirements. This trip is fast paced and much
is required of students that choose to participate. Tiki and Axkana shared their experiences on the previous trip to D.C.

Student Development Rep- Angel
The Student Development Committee (SDC) is a standing committee of the Educational Advisory Committee
(EAC), formed to review and recommend policies and procedures that directly affect student life at PCC. The
tasks of the SDC are to review and recommend policies which affect the academic life of students; review and
revise the Student Rights and Responsibilities policies; review and propose improvements to student service
areas and procedures; and make recommendations to the EAC.

Angel is looking for a rep for SDC. The committee is at the Climb Center downtown on Thursdays
2-4 pm. The first meeting is the 9th. Any student may sit on this committee.

ALTERNATIVE SPRING BREAK 2015
ASHLAND, OREGON
March 22ND-26th
Purpose: To provide Service Learning opportunities for Portland Community College Club
Members. Volunteer projects related to hunger, housing insecurity, and environmental factors
will provide a lens in which student club members will explore poverty in addition to cultural
and geographic diversity. Components of the Alternative Spring Break will include community
service projects such as work at rebuilding centers in the host city, Ashland, OR. Through action
and reflection student club members will have an increased appreciation for community needs
and increase their own commitment to community service.
Important Dates:
Fall Quarter 2014
 Fundraising Activities – This opportunity is funded primarily through the Student Activity
Fee. However, each participant must contribute toward the cost. Therefore, each
person needs to raise $300 in order to qualify for participation. Fund raising can be
done in groups or on your own.
 Community Service Work – Anyone wishing to apply to participate in this opportunity
also needs to complete 10 hours of Community Service Work. This requirement must be
completed at one site on a volunteer basis before January 9, 2014.

 Alternative Spring Break Information Sessions – Optional
Sessions will provide information on fund raising opportunities, required community
service suggestions, and the overall Alternative Spring Break experience.

 Community Service Log due to the Student Leadership Assistant Coordinator. Attached
you will find a list of ideas for volunteer community service work. You need to choose
one site, and log your hours with the Student Leadership Assistant Coordinator on your
campus.
 Application Due to your Student Leadership Assistant Coordinator (Students who are
NOT in good standing with the college OR did not meet the Community Service
requirements WILL NOT qualify to attend).
 $300 Fund Raising Goal needs to be met OR a personal contribution of $300.
January 16th, 2015
 Applicants will be notified about participation in trip. Each student who qualifies and
are selected will need to fill out a travel agreement and profile.

 Required meeting to discuss travel arrangements, expectations and research team
development assignments.

 Required meeting to experience Poverty Dinner. This activity will explore global poverty
issues.

Required meeting to present Research Team findings and travel logistics.
Other important points:
 Once you earn your $300, your trip is covered in terms most meals, living arrangements,
ground travel, and plays. Snacks, souvenirs, and food during travel days are not covered in
the cost.
 Students attending are expected to participate in ALL parts of the agenda.
 Students are expected to abide by PCC policies and guidelines
 Students will share lodging rooms and in some cases beds.
 Students wishing to earn 2 credit hours in Educational Leadership for this experience
should speak with their Student Leadership Assistant Coordinator

This application is for those wishing to participate in the 2015 Alternative Spring Break
workshop that will be held March 22nd to March 26th. To participate, you must commit to
participating in all the pre-travel meetings, raise $300 by January 9th, and complete 10
volunteer community service hours. Please complete the information requested below and
return this form to the Student Leadership Assistant Coordinator by January 9th, 2015. A
selection committee will review all the applications and notify you regarding acceptance by
January 20, 2014
