Time Management Skills: Planning Ahead ❖KNOW WHEN YOUR EXAMS ARE!! ❖ Set a study schedule leading up to your exam ❖ Plan to meet with your teacher if you need help during GP, lunch, zero pd, or after school. ❖ Don’t ignore your curriculum work! Make sure you plan a time to study for exams and a time to do HOMEWORK. ❖ Make a to-do list! Time Management Skills: Studying ❖ Form a study group with RELIABLE classmates ❖ Logout of netflix ❖ Turn off (not just lock) your phone when studying and doing homework ❖ Test yourself on the material SEVERAL times. ❖ Decide what study methods work for you: ➢ flashcards ➢ Khan Academy/Youtube videos (relevant to your studying) ➢ Textbook and notes review ➢ Rewrite definitions for memorization Time Management Skills: Studying ❖ If you’re just reading many pages worth of information, stop after each section/paragraph to summarize the main idea in ONE sentence. ❖ Don’t leave it until the night before--chunk it! If you need to memorize the periodic table--learn a row or a period each day, not all at once. ❖ Make lists, charts, graphs, diagrams, etc. Studies have proven... ❖ Try studying for a few minutes right before bed. During sleep, the brain strengthens new memories, so there’s a good chance you’ll remember whatever you review right before dozing off. (Just try not to bring work into the actual bed, since it can make it harder to get a good night’s sleep.) ❖ Study the same stuff in different locations. It forces your brain to make more associations with the same material. ❖ Treat yo’self! Plan to take 10 minute breaks to check Twitter, Instagram, etc. This will give you motivation to get through the studying. ❖ Meditate before studying. Staring at a spot on a wall for three minutes-this will reduce anxiety and improve focus. Questions? What other questions do you have? Do you know why quarter exams are important?
