Automotive sector gets a major push on Skill Development, NSDC partners with Tata Motors
Preference given to candidates certified by Automotive Skill Development Council (ASDC) at the time of hiring
Courses will be jointly developed based on Qualification Frameworks of NSQF (National Skill
Qualification Framework) in Auto sector with NSDC partners in various Government Schools
NSDC and Tata Motors will also partner to establish driving schools in partnership with various state governments
New Delhi, November 06, 2014: National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) recently signed a
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with India’s largest automotive company Tata Motors Ltd., for collaboration on various skill development programs in the automotive sector. The pilot is envisioned to start with 5 schools with an average of 50 students per school, i.e., a total of 250 candidates trained in the pilot. Depending on the outcomes of the pilot, the full scale plan will be launched. The students trained under this partnership will be preferred while hiring, basis the level of skill certificate that they secure from the programme.
Under the MoU, ‘Automobile’ skill will be introduced as one of the vocational subjects for 11 th and
12 th standard students at some of the Government Schools identified by Tata Motors in partnership with State Governments and in line with the implementation of NSQF at the schools level. These courses will be developed in alignment with National Occupational Standards (NOSs) developed by
Automotive Skill Development Council (ASDC), which helps establish a system of education pathways from school to higher education, while providing certification for vocational skills.
Commenting on the partnership, Mr. Dilip Chenoy, MD & CEO, NSDC said “The Automotive industry in India has been growing around 14% CAGR for the last 10 years and will require around 15 million skilled manpower in the next 10 odd years. Keeping it in mind, this is another major step towards bridging this skill gap and integrating employability skill with the school education. The scheme also enables us to plug in this skilled and knowledgeable set of trained youth, into our vast and growing commercial vehicle network, helping us sustain our service levels.”
The tie-up will also facilitate placement for student from National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), trained on National Occupation Standards developed by ASDC. NSDC will facilitate a "Job Mela" at the location prescribed by Tata Motors for recruitment of NIOS passed students. NSDC will also help Tata
Motors align all the courses and curriculums developed by Tata Motors to the NOS framework and get it accredited from ASDC. Assessment of the aligned course will be conducted by the respective
SSC through their trained and certified Assessor. NSDC through its approved SSC will certify Tata
Motors trainees either solely or jointly certification will be issued for the successful candidates who will pass the prescribed examination.
Additionally, NSDC and Tata Motors will also be working on a Driver Training Program by establishing driving schools in partnerships with State Governments at various places, as mutually agreed with all stakeholders. Tata Motors will be the knowledge partner and provide the course content, and also train the trainer. While NSDC will pitch the model to State Government(s) and look to work with them on a pilot basis, funding for the tuition fees will be either state sponsored or charged from the students.
