II. Leadership Structure A strong leadership team is crucial for chapter success. In the table for this section, add or modify positions as needed, based on your goals for this coming year and the focus area of your chapter. Leadership Transition Plan and Timeline Leadership transition is the single most important strategy to have in place to ensure chapter continuity. The transition process takes multiple months to be performed properly, including outreach, cultivating potential leaders, holding elections, and having at least one month overlap for former and newly elected leaders. Below is a sample leadership timeline: Time Action June-July Begin leadership outreach campaign for positions that will begin in September o Send open position descriptions and "call to leadership" message out via newsletter and social media sites o Invite interested people to late July/early August summer happy hour with a focus on recruiting new leadership team members *current President becomes next year’s vice president CHAPTER ANNUAL PLAN August SeptemberDecember January Ongoing Hold a potluck for interested applicants and leadership team members to get to know each other, answer questions Accept and review applications for new leadership team members Orient new team members Hold planning retreat and create calendar of events for September - January Planning retreat o Review year to date o Plan for upcoming months February-August Create a pipeline for new leadership team members by providing low commitment ways for chapter members to get involved – volunteering at events, invited to sit in at leadership meetings, creating committees for special projects. IV. Leadership meetings Frequent leadership team meetings are crucial to maintaining healthy communication and ensuring your chapter is on track to reach your goals. Use these meetings to discuss recent and upcoming events/initiatives, receive updates from each VP, and brainstorm your chapter’s future activities. Most chapters meet monthly as a team. V. Leadership Goals for the Year Outline three main goals to focus on this year, and measurable deliverables and timelines for achieving them. 2 sample goals are included below: Goal 1 Raise awareness of chapter in the community. Membership Recruitment In order to recruit members, you'll need to employ various methods of communication to convey your chapter's unique offerings. Consider hosting an information session, holding a happy hour, or announcing a call for membership in a local publication. VII. Chapter Communications We recommend that chapters send a monthly update to chapter members. Consistent communication is key to increasing membership involvement, and a way to keep members inspired, motivated, and equipped to make an impact. Some suggestions include: distributing a Net Impact Newsletter, passing on CLUE (Chapter Leader Update Email) from Net Impact Central to members, creating a chapter blog, etc. VIII. Chapter Activities and Initiatives As a chapter leader, you have the opportunity to grow and maintain a thriving chapter through activities such as events and programs. We suggest that chapters run at least 4 activities each year. We recommend that they are a mix of professional development, education, and hands-on project opportunities, but most important is to cater events to member interest. <Net Impact Chapter Name> Preferred Chapter Name <Preferred Chapter Name> Annual Plan Year <20__> I.
