Database Developer Clearance Required: Active Top Secret with Polygraph Location: Northern Virginia Anticipated Start Date: Immediate Pending Customer Approval Description: The Database Developer works with software and determines ways to organize and store data. They identify user requirements, set up computer databases, and test and coordinate modifications to the computer database systems and ensure the performance of the system, understand the platform on which the database runs, and add new users to the system. They also plan and coordinate security measures (data integrity, backup systems, and database security). The Database Developer provides technical assistance to computer system users and answers questions or resolves computer problems for clients in person, via telephone or from a remote location. They may provide assistance concerning the use of computer hardware and software including printing, installation, word-processing, electronic mail, and operating systems. They provide technical expertise in the use of Database Management System (DBMS) and evaluate and recommend available DBMS products to support validated user requirements. The Database Developer defines file organization, indexing methods, and security procedures for specific user applications, manages the development of data base projects and plans and budgets staff and data base resources. When necessary, they reallocate resources to maximize benefits. The Database Developer is responsible for capacity planning. providing support for implementation, troubleshooting, and maintaining IT systems. They manage IT system infrastructure and any processes related to these systems as well as provide support to IT systems including: day-to-day operations, monitoring and problem resolution for all of the client problems. They provide second level problem identification, diagnosis and resolution of problems and support for the dispatch system and hardware problems and remain involved in the resolution process. They also provide support for the escalation and communication of status to agency management and internal customers. The Database Developer coordinates changes to computer databases, test and implement the database applying knowledge of database management systems. They also plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard computer databases. They are responsible for operations related to systems management software as well as installing and maintaining software monitors and conducting advanced analysis of output and performance.
