Greenford High School Media/VLE Technician Job Description Responsible to: The Head of Media; the VLE/Website E-safety Manager. Purpose of the Post: To be responsible for managing and maintaining the Media suite and assist in the administration of VLE/website content. Scale/Hours: 35 hours per week, Term Time only plus 2 Inset days. 8.30am – 4.30 pm Mon-Friday. 1 hour break per day (or two 30 minutes). Three days per year may be taken as leave after negotiation with your line managers. You will also be asked to work on the Media Awards Evening and Open Evening, but time off in lieu can be negotiated. Salary: Grade 1, point 7-11 (precise point within this rage will depend on previous experience and qualifications), inclusive of London Weighting & Ealing Allowance Main Responsibilities Manage and maintain the Media suite – including the lending of camera equipment to students and staff Assist in the administration of the school website, VLE and Media blog hub Assist in the development of the school’s e-safety and cybermentor programme Provide technical support for students and staff with camera equipment, Adobe Photoshop, Premiere and the school’s VLE Work with students individually and in small groups on Media or e-safety projects Assist the Media department in collecting Media coursework for exam board submission Produce and maintain documentation for existing and new sites; provide user-requested changes to existing sites Specific Tasks relevant to the role Media technician – list of responsibilities Managing the lending of Media equipment to students. This includes preparation, charging and maintaining paperwork/records as well as checking returning equipment for damage. In-lesson technical support on Adobe CS6 Premiere Pro and Photoshop. Supervising students between 3pm-5pm to enable coursework to be completed. Providing technical one-to-one support on Premiere/Photoshop during this time. Ensuring Media PCs are in full working order and fully equipped with Media software. Logging any issues with IT and liaising with them. Troubleshooting minor software issues on a daily basis. Converting video/audio files as required for film projects. Collecting and collating Media production work from every Media student (GCSE, AS, A2) for submitting to exam board prior to coursework sample request. Collating and burning Production DVDs for coursework sample (GCSE, AS, A2). Supervising post-16 Media lessons in the event of staff absence. Managing the lending of Media equipment to staff or non-Media students for wider whole school projects (e.g. GHS News, Thinking Skills), and recording of events/performances etc. Assisting/training staff with video cameras/editing for wider whole school projects. Administration/setting up of student blogs for GCSE, Y12 and Y13 in summer/September. Supporting delivery of Media Awards. Website/VLE/E-Safety Assist in the administration of the website and VLE. Produce and maintain documentation for existing and new sites. Provide technical support for staff (VLE/website). Provide user requested changes and enhancements to existing sites. Assist in the development of the school’s e-safety and cybermentor programme. Assist in planning and developing new content and functionality for VLE and website. Auditing VLE/website to identify priorities for development and improvement. Good A Levels and/or other relevant or equivalent qualifications are desirable. 2. Experience in photo and video editing software such as Adobe Photoshop and Premiere. 3. Some experience in front end web development (HTML, JavaScript, Ajax, CSS) is desirable. 4. Some experience in testing, debugging, and troubleshooting Skills 5. Excellent problem solving and analytical skills 6. Excellent written and spoken English 7. Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload 8.
