1. Data Mining Analyst

Boots Customer Analysts know how to ask the right questions to find the answers that
influence our most crucial business decisions. By studying trends to help keep us ahead of
the competition, Boots Customer and Market Insights team are central to the success of our
company. We use cutting edge technology and work with a variety of sources, including data
from our 16 million Boots Advantage Card holders, to provide valuable insight into customer
behaviours.
What will you do?
This role is part of a team responsible for delivering insight through the analysis of Boots
Advantage Card data which influences and drives the delivery of customer needs throughout
the business and in-particular through marketing and trading.
You will be delivering highly targeted customer communications into the Boots business and
to ensure this insight is fully utilised to support delivery of Boots marketing plans, customer
strategy and loyalty strategy. Specifically: Using advanced predictive analysis techniques (e.g. CHAID, Logistic Regression,
Nearest Neighbour, K-Means Clustering) to provide accurate campaign targeting and
comprehensive behavioural analysis and customer segmentation.
 Providing actionable insight and recommendations in the context of direct
communications to steer loyalty business decisions
 Shaping direct communication campaigns to ensure objectives are met, questions will
be answered and campaign selection is seamless.
Who we want?

A degree in a mathematical, statistical, business or marketing field or an equivalent
level of experience in an analytical role.
 Experience with customer segmentation, predictive modelling and/or customer
targeting.
 Experience analysing data in large relational databases through SQL or similar query
tools.
 Ability to analyse at an extremely high technical level whilst being able to confidently
interpret findings and deliver them to an audience with little or no analytical, statistical
or numerical background.
 Experience of customer analysis within the context of a loyalty scheme mechanic as
well as knowledge of direct communications would be extremely advantageous.

What you will be doing…
This role is to provide analysis on the performance of Boots.com across our main and mobile
sites, and to provide insights on the behaviour of our multi-channel customers. This supports
our commercial, customer experience, and business development teams in shaping and
evaluating our multi-channel offering.
This analysis enables an understanding of:
- site performance (how well the site attracts and engages customers)
- performance by channel (main site, mobile site, apps, in-store touchpoints)
- the success of key campaigns from a boots.com perspective
- the boots.com customer profile (including demographics and behaviour)
- the impact of multi channel shopping (use of both the internet and physical stores)
You will be…
• Producing analysis using key software packages available (Coremetrics, Excel, Access,
SAS, SQL).
• Using software to generate and manipulate data to produce clear, concise analysis that
provides insightful and actionable information to our commercial, customer experience, and
business development teams.
• Building relationships with stakeholders at all levels to fully understand their requirements
and issues
Who we want…
• Experience of using web analytics tools such as Coremetrics, Omniture, Google Analytics,
Webtrends.
• Knowledge of business analysis, marketing or other relevant commercial disciplines.
• Highly computer literate, well skilled in using spreadsheets, working knowledge of SQL,
SPSS/SAS and Access an advantage.
• Strong interpretative skills including the ability to go beyond numbers to generate
hypotheses and to make sound business recommendations.
• A degree (or equivalent) preferably in Statistics, Mathematics, Marketing, Economics or
Business Studies

3. Senior Promotions Analyst

A major part of our ongoing success is ensuring that we focus on the right analysis and drive the right
insight when understanding promotional performance. We have invested heavily in our analytical
capability, ensuring we have a fantastic team dedicated to offering great value for customers. And now
we have a great opportunity for someone to join part of that team.
We are looking for a seasoned analyst with significant experience of analysing commercial performance
(ideally in the context of pricing and promotions), who has the ability to drive insight from information
and communicate with clarity and authority. You will also have a strong technical capability with
particular expertise in SQL server.
What you will be doing…
With extensive technical knowledge including proven interpretative skills, and the ability to go beyond
numbers to generate hypotheses and to make high quality business recommendations you will be
accountable for:-
- Supporting the development of promotional strategy framework
- Developing a broader understanding of Boots promotional trends through analysis of discount, volume
uplift and customer participation.
- Analysing competitor promotional programmes to ensure that Boots continues to offer good value for
money
- Sharing learning’s to commercial teams, from director to buyer level.
- Undertaking analysis of promotional activity at category level within the context of the annual category
review process
- Offering guidance and insight on performance of promotional activity and completing detailed analysis
on specific issues and opportunities
- Supporting the production of the category promotional insight document, providing performance trends
at sub-category and brand level.
- Supporting the ongoing development of promotional analysis, offering insight into new techniques and
approaches that will enhance our understanding of promotions
- Support the tactical execution of promotional intent on a period by period basis
- Assisting commercial teams in the allocation of promotions to ‘feature space’
- Ongoing maintenance and development of the promotional database
- Including accountability for the methodology to determine key promotional metrics (e.g. uplift and
cannibalisation)
- Ensuring the integrity of the monthly data load (performance data and supplier funding)
What we want from you…
A highly successful background in commercial analysis with the relevant technical expertise and
business acumen.
Significant experience presenting insights and recommendations to a variety of audiences both verbally
and written.
The determination and resilience to challenge existing thinking and create a centre of excellence for
analytics.
Experience (including hands on experience at some point in your career) of delivering proven business
value through the application of a range of analysis techniques particularly regression modelling.
