METU NORTHERN CYPRUS CAMPUS GREEN CAMPUS LOGO DESIGN CONTEST METU NCC Green Campus Initiative is entering the planning stages of a set of concrete projects for increased utilization efficiency of scarce energy resources, reduced pollution, and mitigation of global warming effects. Therefore, there is an imminent need for an original METU NCC Green Campus Initiative logo that represents the following values: The vital contribution and indispensability of sustainable lifestyle for our world, The institutional identity of METU Northern Cyprus Campus with its modern, dynamic structure, vision of high educational standards, and its idealistic poise on the sustainability of our immediate environment full of natural beauties, and of our world. A METU NCC Green Campus Initiative logo, which represents the above values with the most accuracy and elegance, will be selected through a contest among our students and staff. PARTICIPATION and AWARDS Who can participate? Only METU NCC students and staff can participate to the contest, provided that they are not a member of the Selection Committee. There is no registration fee for the participants. How to apply for participation? In order for the application to be accepted and to be evaluated by the Selection Committee, the following two steps must be completed correctly in the provided order. Step 1: The participants will participate to the contest by uploading the zip or rar formatted application package to “yesillogo.ncc.metu.edu.tr” website. The size of the files to be uploaded should not exceed 3 MB. The alias of the participant will be the registration number automatically generated by the website after the file is loaded it. It is important that the participants save this number. There must be two files in the electronic application package: i. A file named “Design”, with at least “300 dpi” resolution and “jpeg” format or a vectorial format such as ai and cdr. ii. A file named “Explanation”, which is written using Word format (doc or docx) and which explains briefly the meaning of the design and its relationship with the values given above (at most 100 words). The picture of the design should be placed under the explanation. Step 2: Once the participants complete the uploading process, they will submit the following two documents, within a closed envelope with the alias of the participant on the front face, to the contest secretary (mentioned at the end of this document) until 16.04.2012, 16:00: i. The properly filled and signed application form (the attached standard form) ii. The printout of the file named “Explanation”, which has been added to the electronic application package during Step 1. The applications that are not completed until the deadline will not be considered. Prizes: First place carries a cash award of 750 TL, second place 500 TL, and third place 250 TL. It is required that the prepared logo should not belong to another individual or institution, and it should not be registered anywhere in the world. If proven otherwise, the participant and/or participants are eliminated from the contest, and any given prize or prizes are claimed back. TERMS Goal: METU NCC Green Campus Logo Conditions: 1- Participants, who would like to use METU Northern Cyprus Campus Logo in their design, can access METU NCC official logos and details associated with their use at “Visual Identity Guide” under “Services” menu of the METU NCC home page (ncc.metu.edu.tr). METU NCC logo has to be used in accordance with the rules specified in the guide. 2- Participants can submit up to two (2) designs prepared according to the terms specified below. Those who submit more than two (2) designs will be eliminated, and the return of their award(s) will be requested. 3- The logo must be compatible with the four-color publication technique (offsettrichromacy) for all published materials (brochure, newspaper, magazine, etc.) as well as digital media. It should be considered that the logo may be printed on a badge, flag, key-chain, plaque, all types of indoor and outdoor promotional materials, and may be included in internet and electronic media, web sites, and e-mails. Therefore, the design should preserve visual quality and detail when scaled up or down, and should not look disconnected in very large print. 4- It may be requested that the winning designs are converted to a TIF/JPEG/PNG extended file with “1200 dpi” resolution and vectorial format, and resubmitted through e-mail or CD ROM. 5- Hand drawn designs will be accepted after they are scanned, converted to electronic format, and uploaded as electronic submissions. 6- Incomplete sketches cannot be accepted as valid submissions. 7- The electronically submitted “Design” file (Step 1 of the previous section) cannot be a Word file or another word processor with the pasted design picture. 8- The submitted entry must be original work. The participants admit, declare, and oblige ownership of the submitted logo design. The entry must not have won or published in any other contest. 9- Winners cannot demand any award or payment for their entry other than the predetermined prizes; entry owners cannot withdraw from the contest after they have submitted their work. The participants agree to all contest terms and the decisions of the Selection Committee. 10- If a particular submission violates any copyright laws or is not the original work of the participants, the submission will be immediately disqualified from the contest. METU NCC reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to revoke any and all privileges associated with competing in the contest, and to take any other action it deems appropriate, for no reason or any reason whatsoever, including if METU NCC suspects competitors of cheating, tampering with the entry process, or the contest process, or otherwise being in violation of the rules. All legal consequences of copyright violations belong to the participants, and METU NCC or Selection Committee members cannot be held responsible in such cases. 11- METU NCC may announce or publish the winning entry or entries online and in print, or in any other media, with the use of the participant’s proper name, without payment or compensation to the participant, except where prohibited by law. 12- If and once a logo is selected to be used as the logo of the METU NCC Green Campus (Initiative), the participant agrees to provide any technical support in the process of drawing, publishing, and editing. The Selection Committee reserves the right to modify the selected logo(s). 13- Selection Committee reserves the right to cancel, terminate or modify the contest if it is not capable of completion as planned for any reason. Unless a submission is selected for an award, each logo designer retains all intellectual property considerations associated with their submission. 14- Entering the contest constitutes the Participant’s agreement and acceptance of the contest terms, and the decisions of the Selection Committee. EVALUATION Designs not abiding by the contest terms will be excluded from the contest by the Selection Committee decision. CALENDAR 1- Designs will be submitted by 16.04.2012 at 16:00. 2- Evaluations will be completed by the Selection Committee on or before 24.04.2012 at 16:00, and the results will be published at “yesillogo.ncc.metu.edu.tr”.
