Meeting opened at 7.30pm.
Convening of AGM: David Cairns read notice convening meeting. He advised members of letter by Robin Hayes regarding
communication by the Board and other matters relating to the first year of the club’s administrative structure. The Board
has announced that the first point of business for the incoming Board will be to review the administrative structure and
the board has directed other letters or submissions of this review to the new board. With the indulgence of the meeting,
Robin’s letter was redirected to this incoming Board’s for review. Two changes to the agenda were noted: A presentation to
life members and, as no questions had had been submitted to the AGM as requested by the Board, there would be no
general business,
Apologies:
Dave Cairns took apologies from the floor.
Annual report changes:
Marg Webb noted changes to the annual report. Apologies to Ken Wilson who was not listed among the Life Members.
Thanked Marlene Wilson for assistance in compiling the annual report.
Welcome to life members:
Marg Webb welcomed and recognised Life Members present.
Minute silence:
A minute’s silence was held in respect for members who passed away during season 2009-10
Life memberships:
Marg Webb presented certificates to past life members.
Marg Webb read a nomination for life membership for Fran Davis.
Fran joined the bowls club in 1983 whilst still at the old site by the Barwon River and has served the club in almost every
position. She has worked tirelessly, not only for the club, but also for the Geelong Association and bowls in general.
Fran was on the ladies committee for a number of seasons and Ladies President from 1987 to 1989. She has also served on
the GDLBA executive for 14 years, including two as President from 1999 to 2001, and on the match committee for a
number of seasons.Fran was club coach for several years and many of our Members owe their start in bowls to Fran. In the
past she was often to be seen in the club concerts and performing with various choirs. Although no longer bowling, Fran is
still an active member of the club being involved with the craft and card group and of course still representing the club on
the GDLBA.
Fran’s success on the greens is also quite impressive:
In 1989 Fran was runner-up in the club championship and winner of both the 100-up and the President’s Handicap.
In 1992-93 Fran won the club championship and was runner-up in the President’s Handicap.
In 1993-94 Fran again was the club champion and runner-up in the 100-up.
In 1994-95 Fran was runner-up in the club championship and runner-up in the 100-up.
In 1994-95 Fran was runner-up in the club championship and in 1995-96 was the winner of the club pairs with Alvie Abbott,
Fran has also won the GDLBA State Fours win 1998 and GDLBA State Pairs in 2001 with Judy Stacey.
She has been a member of two premierships teams: the A1 team in 2000-01 and the Div 2 team in 2003-04.
Since records have been kept at the new clubhouse, Fran has played in 324 Pennant games for Belmont Bowls Club.
Moved: Lyn Barlow. Seconded: Karen Hayes. Carried.
In accepting the life membership, Fran thanked the club, saying it had always been her pleasure to be involved.
Confirmation of minutes of the 2008/09 Annual General Meeting
Moved: John Wilson. Second John Dalitz Carried
Presentation of balance sheet, statement of accounts and auditor’s report
Mark Elford presented the financial accounts, which were prepared in a format required by the Consumer Affairs Victoria,
and offered the following highlights: Volunteers: Financial health of the club is due to the wonderful contributions of
volunteers. Not possible to run a club without volunteers. Thanks to all but some special mentions follow.
Bank Loan: Loan reduced by $12,700 to $147.788.
Bar: A record-breaking year. Great thanks to tireless Bar Manager Arthur Groves and helpers.
Social Committee, under the guidance of Os Nelson, increased profits by $17,200, an increase of more than 100 per cent.
Congratulations also to Carole and Barry Hirst for the art show.
Catering contributors, led by Marg Webb, increased income by $14,700, a 90 per cent increase. Catering team are
`legends’.Greens: Thanks to Jamie Wray and Graeme Clyne and all the helpers who do an enormous job. Group and Division
One finals were a coup for the club. Greatly improved greens came at vastly reduced cost with expenditure on greens
down by 25 per cent on the previous 12 months.
Arts and crafts: Rita Harrison last year pointed out the arts and crafts did not have own listing in financial statements. This
section had a revenue of $2500 this year. Communication breakdown meant the item is not listed separately this year but
will be next year.
Water levy: Water levy introduced late last year and the funds accrued have been placed in the club’s savings account and
will be used to partially offset the new irrigation of the greens.
Mark asked for questions in regards to the financial statements. There were no questions.
Mark thanked John Wilson, a great mentor who does a terrific job for the club as Treasurer.
He also thanked Marg Webb, David Burdett and David Cairns for managing the difficult situation with the previous
greenkeeper.
It was moved the balance sheet, statement of accounts and auditor’s report as presented be accepted
Moved: Mark Elford. Seconded: Andrew Walker. Carried

Consideration of the annual report and Director’s Review.
Marg Webb offered thanks to David Burdett for assistance during her unfortunate recent absences.
She thanked Rhonda Carroll who started off as Administration Director until she became ill and David Cairns who took over
from her. Thanked Colin Wooltorton for preparing and collating of the annual report.
She thanked the other Directors, Treasurer John Wilson and his wife Marlene.
She said that under the new administrative structure, she had heard members complain that the Board of Management
`interferes’ in parts of the club it has traditionally not been directly involved in.
She reminded all members that all committees report to the Board of Management and all people serving on committees
are subordinate to the Board, which oversees all aspects of the club.
There were no questions regarding the annual report. That the annual report be accepted.
Moved: Bill Gibson. Seconded Len Camm. Carried

Dave Cairns presented the raft of notices of motions to be discussed at the GDBA Annual General Meeting.
Motion 1: That all division 10 and 11 pennant games be reduced to 21 ends.

Fix the amount for subscription and green fees.
Marg Webb advised the Board of management recommendation for subscription and fees to be unchanged and read the
schedule of fees.
Lyn Barlow suggested $6 mat fee and no water levy but John Shanahan a levy is set to meet a specific and it wasn’t a good
practice to include it into base fee. He assured all funds raised through the water levy were spent on water or on irrigation
needs.
That the unchanged schedule of fees and subscriptions be accepted.
Moved: Derek Hayes, Seconded Peter Bayliss. Carried.
Chairperson Margaret thanked all for their attendance and closed the meeting at 8.30pm.

Minutes of the Special Meeting held on 22 October 2010
The meeting was opened by the Administration Director Darryl Stephens at 7.30pm and in doing so
explained to the Members that the meeting had been convened in accordance with the notice as displayed
on the general notice board, he also advised that only financial full, life and provisional members were
eligible to vote.
He advised that upon the completion of voting there would be no further business transacted.
Apologies were received from the following members:
Peter Blincoe, Peter Cornell, Trevor Shultz, Wayne Clarke, Wes Johns, Dianne Aitken, Max Davies,
Gwen Davies, Bill McLennan, Arthur Groves, Mark Blacklock.
Moved by David Ross seconded by Ron Stephens that apologies be accepted.
The meeting was attended by 78 members which was more than the 48 required to constitute a formal
special meeting.
The Administration Director then introduced the Chairperson Margaret Webb to continue proceedings.
Chairperson Margaret informed the meeting that the new constitution contained all the elements of the old
constitution plus a number of additions to comply with our clubs business plan and new committee
structures. The contents of the new constitution has also been designed to fit in with the requirements of
Bowls Victoria and future needs
Chairperson Margaret made mention of the many hours of work that was required to produce the new
document and on behalf of the membership thanked the working party of Peter Blincoe, John Wilson,
Norm Williams, John Shanahan for their efforts.
The Chairperson then introduced John Shanahan to present the new constitution to the Members and to
highlight some of the changes that have been introduced.
John’s presentation was done by way of a power point display so that all Members could see clearly what
had been done. The clubs constitution had not been updated since the year 2000 and needed changes to
conform with the model rules and Consumer Affairs.
John went through each section of the document indicating either no change and an explanation on the slide
as to the changes that had taken place. After concluding his presentation John handed back to the
Chairperson Margaret Webb to continue the meeting.
Chairperson Margaret thanked John for his excellent presentation and then asked if there were any
questions from any of the Members, as there were no queries from the floor the Chairperson called for a
motion to approve the new constitution.
It was moved by Os Nelson and seconded by Ted Giles that the new constitution be approved by the
Membership.
The Chairperson then called for a vote by a show of hands and was passed unanimously therefore approving
the Clubs New Constitution.
With no further business being conducted the Chairperson Margaret thanked all the Members for their
attendance and declared the meeting closed at 8.45pm.

CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT
As this is my fourth and final report as Director/Chairperson of the Belmont Bowls Club I would like to
reflect on many good changes and improvements that have been established at the club.
First of all the water tanks, which was initiated by the previous Director, Os Nelson, the sealing of the
carpark, the Council grant for the renovation of D green, the grant for the decking and the renovation of
B green.
I would like to thank Councillor Bruce Harwood for all the hard work he has done in obtaining these
grants for the Club, it is very much appreciated Bruce.
Congratulations to all the award winners and club champions both men and women. Pennant results
were again very disappointing, but our Division A1 ladies team did get to the Grand Final.
Congratulations girls.
Despite the lack of success on the greens I must say well done to the Bowls Section for getting through
what has been a most difficult and trying season and thank them also for their support
Over the course of the season we have lost many of our members or relatives of members.
Our condolences are extended to their respective families.
I extend my thanks and congratulations to all the managers, staff and volunteers of the Bar, Social,
Catering, Sponsorship and other fund raising groups or committees. Because of the inclement
weather this season their work was extremely difficult but well done as our figures were very good
considering.
To all our members who volunteer their services for any job big or small, it is amazing the help we
get at this club, thank you very much.
I do not like mentioning individuals because someone is always overlooked, but I feel that I have to
mention these three men who have done exceptional work over the years. Firstly Max Davies, who put
in a lot of time and effort into building the decking at the club, it has enhanced our club immensely,
I know Max had a lot of helpers and I thank them too. Secondly John Wilson who has been Treasurer
for the last four years, John said he would continue to be Treasurer and I long as I was Director,
thank you John I hope you do not give it up as you have done a wonderful job and you have
mastered the accounts package so well.
Last but not least Phil Muelblok, Phil has done a wonderful job with membership and our Web site,
which he has kept up to date daily.
I would also like to express my appreciation for the green keeper, greens director, surround and
facilities directors and their tireless helpers for the wonderful work they continue to do in keeping
this Club as attractive and presentable as it is. Also the House Manager and his helpers for their work
inside, the ladies and men in the kitchen, everyone who has helped in any way for example on
tournaments, washing aprons and table cloths, all the jobs big or small.
Finally I wish to thank all the members who have worked with me on the Management Committee
over the past four years they have worked so hard and made me look good, it was much appreciated.
I wish everyone good luck in their new positions next year and I know that the club will only
continue to improve.

ADMINISTRATION DIRECTORS REPORT
In providing this my first report I can say that this year has been both interesting and challenging to
say the least however we must look at what has occurred throughout the year on the positive side
as well as the negative
The Board of Management has in the past been criticised for its lack of communication with Member’s,
we believe this problem has now been addressed with various outlets of communication available to
Members. There is the Friday night counter teas, the Board minutes on the notice board, Wednesday Triples,
monthly discussion, monthly discussion session following mid-week pennant. Also there is the monthly
newsletter so as you can see there is plenty of opportunity to have your say and ask questions and
if you are still not satisfied all you have to do is approach a Board Member and I am quite sure your query
will be addressed.
For the most part the Clubs new structure is working well, of course it will be fine-tuned as we encounter
things that are not working as well as they should and will be adjusted or changed as required, however
all Members must realise that to have things running smoothly we must have co-operation in accepting
change so that we can move forward with the times thus ensuring that our Club continues to be successful.
Although the club has not enjoyed the success we had hoped for on the greens there were a number
Of divisions who featured in finals, however it is off the green where we have made very good progress
and achieved much of what had been planned and I speak firstly of our magnificent decking project and then
the phenomenal progress that has been made with the renovations to B green.
This is a perfect example of Club Members working together to achieve results for one common cause and
that is to improve our Clubs amenities for the benefit of all Members.
It is also worthy of noting that the Belmont Bowls Club played its part in supporting the State of Queensland
with a donation to the flood relief disaster appeal with a sum of $1901.00 which was contributed from
our bowls events over a period of one week.
It is rather disappointing that once again there is that same small element of members who are not
Satisfied with what is going on around the Club and continually criticise the work of those who have
been prepared to put their names forward to work on either the Board of Management or Bowls
Section CommitteeThese people were voted on to Committee positions by Members to administer
the clubs affairs on your behalf and are doing the best job that they can, therefore I say to those people
who seem to be never satisfied put your name up for a committee position, otherwise stop criticising
those who areprepared to have a go.
I would like to thank all Board Members firstly for their attention that they gave to their individual
portfolios and secondly their contribution to our Board meeting’s this year although some were of
considerable length, all matters were discussed thoroughly, also a big thanks for their assistance and
advice throughout the year.A special thanks to Bruce Hoskin for his help and guidance in the setting
up of the laptop computer.
To those members who may not be seeking re-election I wish you every success for the future and
Of course best wishes to the incoming Board Members.
Last but not least in this report it would be very remiss of me if I did not acknowledge the work of our
Chairperson Margaret Webb who will not be seeking re-election.
Margaret has worked tirelessly in her term of four years as Director/Chairperson of the Committee/
Board of Management, especially her efforts in working closely with the officials at the City of Greater
Geelong to obtain grants for our Club improvements.
This of course is only part of the role that she played throughout her term.
I am quite sure that the words expressed here are the sentiments of all Members of the
Belmont Bowls Club……... Margaret, best wishes and thanks from us all.

BOWLS DIRECTORS REPORT
The new bowls season will see in a number of changes to the competitions in Geelong. From the first of
July, a new body known as the Geelong Bowls Region (G.B.R) will be in place. This will incorporate the
previous GDBA, GDLBA and BDLBA (Bellarine). These associations have been wound up, and no longer exist.
The challenge for our club will be to maintain the high rankings that our ladies sides have had in the past,
as the teams from the previous Bellarine Association will be slotted into the Geelong sides. This of course
will mean that there will be more divisions in the new GBR for Midweek Pennant. The Saturday Pennant
won’t be affected, as GDBA has previously and will still, include teams from the Bellarine area.
The new competitions will now run their Pennant days as Midweek Pennant and Saturday Pennant. This is
a name change only, and follows the direction of Bowls Victoria. Belmont Bowls Club has in the past selected
mainly ladies for Midweek Pennant, and men for Saturday Pennant. There appears to be no reason why
this won’t continue, except for a very few exceptions. Unfortunately, we are unable to control what is done
at other clubs.
This past bowls season has seen many challenges due to the number of washed out days, both Ladies and
Men’s Pennant, and some tournaments. The annual Ladies Classic was washed out this year, and as this is
usually a great money earner for the club, was felt financially. Men’s Pennant suffered 7 washouts this year,
as well as Wed. social games and 2 monthly triples. All of this reflected itself in our financial bottom line,
and also in our men’s Pennant placing. One of our sides only had one home game in the first part of the
season; another missed most of the teams below them during the first half, but managed to play all
teams above them twice. Despite all the setbacks, our men’s section managed three sides in the finals,
and our ladies two sides. Unfortunately, we were unable to get a “Flag”, but congratulations to all players
involved.
Club Tournaments.
Thanks go to Lyn Barlow and Stan Copley for their work during the season in this difficult job. Thanks also to
those members of the tournament committees for their help this season, many for the first time.
It is proposed that all club tournaments held during the past season be evaluated to see if improvements
can be made, to assess if any improvements can be made to the format, timing, fees, prizes etc. to these
events. All members are asked to put forward any ideas that you think can help improve our events.
Men’s Bowls.
Wally Lake and a team have taken over from Warwick Plunkett in the running of Wednesday social bowls.
The numbers have remained well up, and have again done well, despite numerous washouts.
Men’s monthly triples again continue to run smoothly and are a tribute to the background work by Robin and
David. They are also part of the team that runs the highly successful Western District day. The format and
catering is great, as well as the beer and bull after the games.
The holiday carnival is still kicking goals each year, with a full complement of players, and a smooth
background group making this one of most successful tournaments. Bruce, Ted, and all the helpers met
early in the season, and then met regularly until the event date. The amount of detail put into running this
event is remarkable, and of course is the basis of making this such a successful tournament.
Congratulations to all involved.
The Laurie Budde Classic Fours was again held this year, and although the number of entries were
disappointing, the event went off quite well. It would appear that this event is affected by the timing in the
bowls calendar therefore we must look closely at when this event is held in the future.
Two new events were added to our tournaments this season. They were the Super Veteran’s tournament
(cancelled due to lack of numbers), and the Laurie Wood Memorial tournament (numbers were down due
to the timing of this event, running into Bendigo Country Week).
The Oscars, co-ordinated by Steve Davies were held once again over a 7 week period with 28 teams
competing, this is a great format which introduces people to both the game of bowls and our club.
Thanks must go to Steve for his efforts with this event and also to Peter, Wally and Max with the meals
and kitchen duties well done guys.
BBC Annual Report 2011/2012
Page 10
Club event numbers were also down and it is disappointing that club members will go to other clubs to
play instead of supporting their own club events.
Saturday Pennant Selectors Report
The selection committee were very optimistic about the 2010/11 season and high hopes of success.
We had a number of sides that had great potential to win a premiership or at least make the finals. By
seasons end we had quite a mixed bag of outcomes. With 7 games called off because of wet weather it
made things difficult. The major aim was to get our club back into Division one, the difficulty here was
having two Div 2 sides which presented us with quite a challenge. Our overall pennant results varied
throughout the divisions.
We had Division 2 blue, Division 6 and Division 7 all making the finals with mixed success unfortunately no
one made it through to a grand final.
Most other Divisions were up and down throughout the season and unfortunately our lower Divisions
struggled all year however a number of new bowlers emerged.
Night pennant was difficult this year as we lacked regular players but we believe that one side in this
competition is ample.
Special thanks go to Albert Wight for his work this year preparing team sheets, scorecards, club records
and the changing of ladders, well done. Thanks to those members who made themselves available at short
notice and to the ladies who filled in when needed.
Thank you to the greens staff for the preparation of the greens every week and last but not least thank you
to my fellow selectors in Shane, Ted, Roger, and Reg for their assistance through the year. Particularly
to Shane for the bulk of the admin duties.
I would like to wish the incoming committee all the best for the coming season.
Steve Davies
Chairman of Selectors (Saturday Pennant)
Ladies Selection Report
Our main aim this season was to stabilise teams as much as possible, using a rotation system when necessary.
We felt it was essential to keep pennant players informed through our monthly discussions and to promote
an open communication with teams and individuals. We endeavoured to strengthen skills and strategies
with 20 – 30 ladies regularly participating in our practice sessions.
Well done to the Division 1 side who played in this year’s Pennant Final – narrowly losing to Geelong RSL by
6 shots. Division 2 Blue lost to Geelong RSL by 4 shots in the Elimination Final. Our other 3 sides – Division 2
Gold, Division 3 and Division 4 had varying successes throughout the season. Hopefully we can build on these
results for 2011 – 2012.
The rink with most wins – K. Hayes, A. Phayre, H. Brennan, B. Thomas (12 wins).
The highest winning rink – J. McCallum, D. Aitken, J. Twaddle, W. West (+ 48 shots).
Congratulations to the ladies who were successful in our Club Events
We appreciate the men who have willingly assisted the ladies throughout the season:
Graeme Clyne – Greens Director, Jamie Wray – Greenkeeper, and the men who prepared outstanding
greens; Ted Giles who umpired the Ladies’ Pennant matches; Peter Cornell & Darryl Stephens for their
valuable coaching assistance; Gurney Barnes and his willing kitchen helpers; and the men who prepared to
play in Pennant teams if there were insufficient Ladies available.
Thank-you to all the Pennant players for their co-operation throughout the season and also the
Selectors for their commitment – Pam Rhodes, Lois Mensch, Val Hardy and Cec Gunn.
We welcome Annette Phayre for next season.

Chairperson of Selectors

Ladies Bowls
Unfortunately, one of the ladies major events for the season, the Classic Fours, was washed out.
The Open Day was conducted, and was very successful. A big thanks to all the ladies who brought along
salads, etc.
All other events held were very successful, but were down in numbers again.
Friday mixed social bowls has seen increasing numbers each week, with an average of 28 players, and a
high of 42 players. As most of the participants are newer bowlers, this is a great place for improving skills
and learning more about the game.
Lyn Barlow has done a great job as Tournament Manager this season, as well as running the Friday
social with help from Bob Dainton.
The Belmont/Geelong West is a new initiative but has been very successful. Belmont/Highton days have
also lead to increased numbers, but it is disappointing to have members support other clubs instead of
their own.
There is a feeling that our club is taking responsibility for an uneven number of GDLBA/VLBA games, as
some clubs are refusing to hold these events. This cuts the number of greens/rinks available for our own
club use.
A special thanks to Ted Giles, who has made himself available as umpire for all Pennant games this season.
Also to Darryl for his help with coaching this season, in conjunction with Dianne.

Catering Report
The Kitchen at Belmont Bowls Club is always a busy and bustling place, and this 2010-11 season has been
no exception. Over a number of years we have achieved a reputation of which we can be proud, and we
have endeavoured to maintain this high standard of food preparation and presentation.
This season we have catered for 18 Club Tournaments, 9 Outside Functions, 4 Club Social Dinners, and more
than 40 Counter Teas. At the time of writing, we are also hopeful of hosting several pennant finals matches.
The revenue that is generated for the club, through the kitchen, is enormously important, and I thank
everyone who has contributed in any way towards the safe, successful and happy running of the kitchen.
We also work closely with the bar staff, and I thank them for their co-operation.
BBC Annual Report 2011/2012

During the summer, six members (including two men) achieved their food handlers’ certificate through
the Gordon Institute. It has been most gratifying to have many more men helping in the kitchen this year.
We are fortunate in having so many people who readily volunteer when needed.
Thanks go to:
The ladies who purchase the food in conjunction with the providers for whatever function or event that
we are required to cater for.
To all those who are involved with keeping our kitchen areas clean and tidy.
To the ladies that wash all our kitchen necessities such as aprons, tea towels etc week in week out and
let’s not forget the men who wash dishes and do the heavy work.
A big thanks to both men and ladies that have helped out at special functions and to those who were
experts at manning a BBQ.
Special appreciation to all ladies that have contributed food for functions whenever needed.
To the catering committee and their teams who have worked so hard on the big catering days,
I have greatly appreciated your time, expertise and tireless efforts always so willingly given.

Indoor Bowls Report
At the indoor bowls AGM held on March 15th. 2010, the concerns of small numbers attending bowls was
discussed, but it was hoped that enough bowlers coming each week would make the club survive at Belmont.
Several long time stalwarts of indoor bowls had retired due to ill health etc. thus affecting numbers further.
These concerns of surviving still apply going into the new season of 2011-2012.
In the past the May to August winter months have been the big income earning period, but 2010 was poorly
attended.
The official Opening day, on May 1st, was attended by only about 12 members.
It was learnt that Ocean Grove and RSL Indoor clubs had ceased activity, this following the demise of
Highton, Geelong and Seaview clubs over the past 2 years.
Belmont gained eight bowlers from some of these recent disbanded clubs to play GDIBBA with our club.
We were able to enter teams in the Monday night Pennant and the Friday afternoon Pennant competitions.
Club championships were held on Wednesdays. Two highlights of these events were :
1. The Ladies singles champion, Roma Julian, was the runner up for the GDIBBA title
2. Roma and Cathie Matthews, the club’s ladies champions, went on to win the GDIBBA title.
It is interesting to note that these two ladies, along with men’s singles champion Graham Shelton are all
from other clubs that we gained to play in GDIBBA events.
The four open nights, once very big events, saw the format changed from fours to triples to encourage
more entries, but it was still hard to get 8-10 teams to enter.
The Atkins Memorial was cancelled due to only 3 teams entering, and Saturday afternoon social was
discontinued owing to lack of interest. This left only Thursday afternoons as the social day of the winter
months. The Monday summer bowls, held during the outdoor summer season, has been a little better
than recent years. This is mainly due to up to 10 bowlers from Torquay Bowls club attending, thus
helping boost our numbers to around 20 bowlers each week. The indoor bowls has handed $5200 to the
Board of Management for the year.

Deaf Games 2012.
Some members may not be aware, but Belmont Bowls Club will host a week of deaf bowlers from all
over Australia in early January, as part of the Deaf Games Championships. 17 sports will be involved in
this major event, with up to 100 bowlers on our greens for the week. These are national Championships,
BBC Annual Report 2011/2012
Page 13
and this prestigious event has been granted to our club in recognition of the excellent greens and facilities,
that are the best in Geelong. This event will mean a great commitment from all members to ensure that
we can make the most of the opportunity to promote our club Australia wide, and at the same time
gain a great financial boost.
Summary
The Good : There are many positives to be gained from this past season. Best greens in Geelong,
best facilities, more teams in the finals than previous season. More new bowlers, and a flow of enthusiasm
from these players, which will give a kick to the existing sides for the future.
Again, congratulations on a great win by our age challenged Arthur in the last GDBA veteran’s singles.
Also, congratulations to our ladies side of Karen Hayes, Annette Phayre, Helen Brennan and Bev Thomas,
for winning the last ever GDLBA ladies fours.
The Bad : No Pennants, ladies or men’s. But there are encouraging signs, as both top teams made the
finals, and should be able to convert these games into a Pennant flag next season.
The Ugly : No Uglies… everything looks rosy for a great season for our club in season 2011/2012.

Bowls Director.
FACILITIES DIRECTORS REPORT
As reported in last year’s report, “A” Green opened as per schedule and has provided a good surface for
bowling and assisted overall in Green management.
Construction of Patio commenced in October and was completed with officially opening on 6th March 2011.
The Patio Project was downsized from original plans however with the City of Greater Geelong Grant and
Max Davies assistance we have been provided with a great asset which has given us a great area for viewing
and socializing.
Greens
Our greens have provided excellent bowling throughout the season, which culminated in praise from
visitors and club members. The selection of the Club for numerous finals is testament to our greens and
facilities.
During the winter the water system was overhauled which included replacement of pump providing
greater water pressure; replacement of irrigation pipe system which provided a better and more even
cover/flow; reconnect to main water system in case of emergency
“B” Green was totally renovated with planting of Tiftdwarf and replacement of ditches. Edges and banks
are being replaced and green should be ready for play for start of 2011/2012 Season.
A further report from our Greens Manager is in this report.
The overall efforts of our Greenkeeper Jamie, Greens Director Graeme and his band of willing hard working
Greens volunteers are acknowledged and thanked.
The strategy and decision of the Board to develop four grass greens should make this club the envy of all
clubs in Victoria.
Surrounds
Our overall outside areas are a great asset to our Club and contribute enormously to the general aesthetic
and ambience of our Club.
Surrounds Manager Noel O’Connor and his group of volunteers are to be commended for their dedication,
time, expertise and general efforts in maintaining and improving our surrounds.
A special mention to our “Full Frontal” team Brian and Peter who look after the front area; Bruce for his
Roses: the Lawnmowers David, Alan, Fred and John; The “A Team” of John R, Bobby and Terry;
Peter on “B”; Rob on “C”.
Please accept a huge thank you to all other outside volunteers who I have missed.

House
House Manager Maurie Redfern and his team of hard workers in particular “The Sarge”,Bob and Dean
for their Monday morning clean ups are to be congratulated for the general cleaning and maintaining
of the Clubrooms.
Both heating and cooling systems received attention this season and are working more efficiently.
Heavy rain over the summer caused damage to the ceiling in the kitchen, which will be repaired by
insurance and the roof will be repaired from club funds.
Honour Boards are being replaced and updated progressively.
We are currently pursuing grants to assist with suitable repairs/upgrading of both toilets and cloakrooms.
Patio Project
This project got underway in October after Max Davies took control and solving of a few problems mainly
accoustic and budgeting. Cirillo Architects are thanked for their efforts in this regard. Over 1000 man-hours
were ticked up during the course of construction and our many volunteers are thanked for their assistance
especially the old brickie Alan Sutherland. Fortunately we were able to include a new boundary fence on
the east side of carpark and gates, together with tiering and landscaping of west bank on D green within
this project.
This project was capably managed and worked on by Max Davies and he is hugely thanked for his time,
expertise, tools etc. Max saved the club a considerable amount of money and we have gained a great asset.
In conclusion I take this opportunity to thank David Burdett for his leadership and expertise as
Facilities Director over the past few years. David resigned this position in October 2010 due to personal
and other commitments.
Finally I wish to thank my three Managers, Graeme Clyne, Noel O’Connor and Maurie Redfern and
Jamie Wray, Green Keeper and all the great volunteers.

Greens Director Report
Yet another year has passed and we have achieved great results.
Early December 2010, A green was opened, everyone has agreed on how good it has been for a first year
green. Also early December 2010, B green was sprigged with Tiftdwarf, with the efforts of a great working
bee, the result has been amazing.
Thank you to all of you who have been involved.
A new plinth has been put around B green, we are now in the process of putting a new ditch around same.
The greens during the season have been first class. Our appreciation to Jamie for his great work and
dedication - thank you Jamie.
To Doug Elford and Ron Stevens, thank you for your support throughout the season, to all others who
have participated throughout the season with various work carried out, thank you.
It has been a pleasure working with Jamie and all of the green staff. All is made worthwhile especially
when we get finals and positive compliments from outside bowlers.
Again, thank you for your continued support / assistance throughout the year.

MARKETING DIRECTORS REPORT
This year the concept of Twilight Bowls (Barefoot) was introduced, being available
on the 2nd & 4th Friday
of each month. Unfortunately the unseasonal weather conditions from November on has limited expected
results. However, repeat, large Corporate groups have enjoyed our facilities and in turn boosted our income.
A mail-out Brochure was sent in late January to 32 businesses, some already Club sponsors encouraging
their respective Social Clubs to visit.
Directional Club Signage was erected November on corner of Reynolds Road / Princes Highway intersection
for the benefit of Visitors. Shade cloth together with a large Twilight Bowls banner was affixed on the
Club’s western boundary fence.
The Club monthly Newsletter publication is proving popular with members. Colin Wooltorton did a fine
job and is to be congratulated for his efforts whilst Editor. Following his relocation to Adelaide, we were
very fortunate to have Robert Agg take up the baton in January. Very pleasing to now have many
members supplying reports and other material. Keep up the good work.
Weekly Forthcoming Events report in the Geelong Advertiser is at the discretion of their Editorial staff as to
whether we get our preferred day of publication or not. Depending really on quantity of other sporting
activity. Majority of time all is well, particularly with Results.
The Club Website, is managed by Phil Meulblock who does a marvellous job. That is illustrated by the
number of visitors / hits to the site. Further content is invited by Members by way of Photos/reports.
Among many Special events; a Car Boot sale was held February. Good monetary result due to the efforts
of the two Ladies concerned with support.
A Legacy Charity Bowls Day was held during March, providing much goodwill and appreciation from
Geelong Legacy.
Craft Group. Earlier this year this hard working group of Ladies disbanded after a period of over 20 years.
Reasons : lack of new members, health issues and relevant ideas.
A marvellous contribution of over $25,000 to our Club over that time. Well done!
Our Card Group meet each Tuesday, also having provided many thousands of Dollars to the Club’s
income stream. Well done also and may you all continue for many years to enjoy each others company.
Finally thanks and appreciation to all Members, particularly our Green Keeper, Club Catering Ladies and Bar
staff who assisted in making all visiting groups and guests so welcome on all occasions. Our Club continues
by promotion to earn the reputation as one of the top Clubs within the Greater Geelong area.

Website Managers Report
For the last three years we have caught up with technology and have managed our own website. We are
now in our fourth year and hope to continue to improve it, as time goes on.
Since the visitors counter was installed, we are able to see if people have discovered it and they have
certainly done so, as the counter shows. In 2010 we have had 3956 hits with 2334 unique visitors. Visitors
have increased every year, so all has not been in vain.
For a start, the search engine Google did not help to find us, but as time went on, we went to the top of the
search list.
The website shows, among other things, the ladies’ and men’s pennant teams and results each week, social
bowls results, photos of ladies and men’s club championship winners and runners up, an indoor bowls page,
what is currently happening at the club.
If any member has anything of interest to place on the website, feel free to ask me and I’ll see what I can do.
Also if any member knows how to improve it, you are very welcome to come forward.
The website builder I have been using is Vodahost.
The website address is www.belmontbowlsclub.com

Social Committee Report
In
a season where the operation of bowls was severely curtailed by unseasonal weather, the social
committee was able to maintain flow of income to augment the finances of the club.
We are pleased to be able to report that we have met, and exceeded the budget which was set at $25000 by
the Board. This result was assisted by a small carry over from the previous year.
The Friday night counter teas have been an outstanding success continuing to attract consistent patronage
from members and visitors.
Too much credit cannot be given to the catering teams, both ladies and some men who ensure that the
quality of catering is always high. Without them our treasurer (Mr Wilson) would lose much of his hair.
In view of the increased cost of basic ingredients along with food stuffs in general it was necessary to raise
the price of our counter teas to $10.00, this was made just prior to Christmas and it was well received by all
let’s face it where else would you get a 2 course meal for that price
The counter teas also provide a setting for member interaction and fellowship in pleasant surroundings. The
raffle, especially if it is not won in the early weeks of its operation usually secures a good attendance.
Special dinners on notable occasions have invariably drawn strong support, as was with the opening night
dinner in late August which featured former Richmond and interstate football star Dick Clay as guest
speaker.
As usual the Melbourne Cup eve dinner was well supported, Steve Davies again organised a program of fun
and frivolity. The cup theme saw many unusual creations that drew applause with door prizes throughout
the night coupled with a variety of sweeps proved to be very successful.
Many thanks to Len Camm and Max Walker for their running of the sweeps and of course the
“Phantom Call” added spice to the night.
The Christmas dinner received overwhelming support with in excess of 170 members and guests sitting
down to a hot meal with all the trimmings. The Belmont Pops (grandfathers all) mentored by Barry Hirst
provided excellent background and occasional music, to cap it all were the lyrics of the bard of Belmont,
Charles “Porkingham” Smith who has a way with words and a gift for doggeril.
Beryl Milton’s efforts to enable members to visit the Geelong Football Club facilities were most
praiseworthy. The tour planned for October was oversubscribed so Beryl arranged a mini tour early in 2011
to allow those who missed out initially to attend.
BBC Annual Report 2011/2012
Page 17
Saturday pennant raffles were down on previous years, a casualty of days unable to play because of
inclement weather. Wendy Young, Cec Gunn, Beryl Milton, Judy Squires and Glenys Burville were all very
helpful in raising funds from these ventures.
The committee has been called on to provide two counter teas due to circumstances where the regular
catering groups were either unavailable or inundated with work and we have used our sponsor Chook ‘n’
Hook to provide the main course.
Special thanks are due to members of the committee who have worked together harmoniously through the
year, regrettably we have lost Colin and Irene Wooltorton who have moved back to Adelaide to be near their
family, both were tireless contributors and good friends to all on the committee.
Winston Burville has now been added to the committee and is a welcome addition.
Last but not least many thanks to Max Davies for procuring Laurie Budde raffle tickets at very reasonable
rates.
We all look forward to continuing good times at the Belmont Bowls Club.
Os Nelson
President, Social Committee
DIRECTOR OF MEMBERSHIP REPORT
Membership
Our membership numbers have remained pretty much on par with last year with a total of 368 members.
Thanks to Terry Cullen and the Corporate/Barefoot bowls and Steve Davies with the “Oscars’ we have
managed to attract 32 new members to cover the members we have lost.
Our current membership stands as follows:
1 Special member
1 Student member
20 Provisional member
95 Social members
212 Full members
Many thanks to Phil Meulblok for his untiring and excellent work in managing and following up on all
membership matters, without his help the job would be much more difficult, thanks Phil.
Volunteers
Volunteers are the lifeblood of our Club
I would like to thank all our members who have devoted their time and effort to the club to ensure
everything that happens at the club does so smoothly.
One only has to look around the club to appreciate the amount of effort put in by our volunteers, both inside
and outside.
It is due to their efforts that our club has the envious reputation it has.
Welfare
We note, with regret, the passing of our esteemed members.
Don Wright
Dot Henderson
Pauline Pettigrove
Alice Judd
They will be in our thoughts always.
Thanks to Pat Graham for keeping us informed of our members welfare and for sending flowers and cards to
our ailing members. I am sure it helps to keep their spirits up.
Sponsorship
It is often said and very true, “without sponsors we would not be able to operate as we do”
BBC Annual Report 2011/2012
Page 18
Sponsorship is a two way street, sponsors provide assistance to the club and would expect that members
will, where possible use their products and services.
We currently have 44 sponsors who contributed approximately$15000.00 worth of support to our club.
It was extremely pleasing to see some 70 members attend our evening at Buckley’s (one of our major
sponsors)
I would like to thank the sponsorship team of Pearl Mills, Marg Elford and Marg Webb, due to their hard
work and persistence we have managed to maintain our sponsorship base, plus also attract new sponsors.
So, once again, where possible, please support our sponsors.
As I will not be seeking the Membership Directorship next year, I would like to wish the new Director and the
club all the success in the future.
Wally Lake
Director, Membership, Volunteers and Welfare.
FINANCE DIRECTORS REPORT
I have pleasure in presenting the financial accounts, which have been prepared in accordance with the
Associations Incorporation Act 1981 and duly audited by Scott’s Chartered Accountants.
This financial year has seen the Club achieve a profitable trading result and meet all commitments despite
the loss of income from pennant, social bowls and monthly triples washouts. Also some other events
were down on entries or cancelled due to the weather.
Liabilities –Commonwealth Bank Loan has reduced to $134848 with monthly principal and interest met
comfortably.
Assets – Overall minimal change notwithstanding $31000 of cash reserves were used for new irrigation
system.
Sponsorship –Income increased by $5000, which was partly due to S3500 from Ray White Real Estate
Highton (Daniel Hayes) and our hardworking sponsorship committee (Pearl would not accept no).
All sponsors are thanked for their contribution to the Club.
Bar –Another good year thanks to Arthur and his team despite drop in income
Social Committee –A record result of $27,000, thanks to Os Nelson and his team a marvellous effort.
Catering – A pleasing result despite drop in number of larger functions.
Expenses –Containment of operating costs across all areas has proven beneficial to the club. The
willingness and contribution by our volunteers greatly assists the Club financially and are thanked
accordingly.
Finally I wish to thank our hardworking Treasurer John Wilson for his diligence and assistance in
managing the financial affairs of the Club.
John Shanahan
Finance Director
Bar Report
What a year we have had weather wise, with seven Saturdays and monthly triples lost because of wet
weather and the number of functions down on last year our income has suffered. The total income for
the year was $132,686 compared to $145,925 in 2009/10.
The funds provided to the Club were consequently also down from $85000 to $78000
The OSCARS (organised by Steve Davies) and the great numbers for the Friday Night Counter Teas have
certainly helped the bar finances
All Geelong and District Clubs are envious of our greens and facilities and we have had many finals here.
The spectators and players have helped add some much needed funds to the bar
A grateful thank you to all Men and Lady volunteer bar workers, we would not have the Bar without your
work and support..But, we need more helpers and I would really appreciate you contacting me if you
could volunteer a couple of hours a month to assist in the Bar
