WITHDRAWAL OF DISCRETIONARY TRANSPORT TO FAITH SCHOOLS You may or may not be aware that Leeds council are consulting on taking away subsidised transport to faith schools. The consultation has been running from 27th February to 27th March 2013 and the relevant documents can be accessed through the St Mary’s website (see end of notice). Obviously we need to make a robust response to the council to try and ensure they do continue with the current arrangements. Representatives on the council should hear as many voices as possible so we can make sure this proposal never comes to fruition. The meeting is at 6.00pm on Tuesday 19th March at St. Mary's High School Menston. http://www.stmarysmenston.org/Information/schooltra nsport/Pages/Protecting-our-TransportConsultation.aspx LENT CHAPLAINCY TALK On Tuesday 19th at 7.30pm in St James Parish Centre Richard Dimery will talk about the work he does as an Airport Chaplain. Accordingly, we have arranged for a mail shot to be sent to every house in the LS18 area. This is an effort to ensure that we have an accurate and up to date record of all who wish to be included as members of our local Catholic community. It is an opportunity to welcome newcomers to this area, and to renew contact with anyone with whom we may have lost touch for some reason. This will be delivered by the Royal Mail. HOWEVER, we need to sort out nearly 8 500 letters for them to deliver! So, a letter sorting session has been arranged for the afternoon of Saturday 23rd March from 2 - 4p.m. in the school hall and we would ask as many people as possible to come along and help with this. VACANCIES Please see the Parish website for details of current job vacancies at Catholic Care and Cardinal Heenan High School. YEAR FOR FAITH - FOR INDIVIDUALS Go to Confession. Catholics can find fresh heart and renewal of life through the Sacrament of Penance, becoming reconciled with God and with their fellows. This Sacrament of Reconciliation urges us to turn back to God, express sorrow for falling short in our Christian discipleship, opens our lives to the power of God’s healing and regenerating love. It offers us God’s forgiveness for the injuries of the past and provides strength for the future. Regular participation in this Sacrament should be the norm for every sincere Catholic.
