They gave the people of Athens the right to assemble, debate, discuss, speak, and vote on laws. For major decisions the assembly (citizens gathering to vote) needed about 6,000 people to vote. -Interesting Facts: Voting was done by a show of hands, a secret ballot or by placing a pebble into a container. Slaves were also sent to round up Greek citizens to vote if they didn’t show up to the assembly and whipped them with a long rope that was covered in red dye. -Governing Bodies (Assembly of 6000, Council of 500, Court System) -United States (Present Day) was a Representative Democracy The founding fathers decided to give the people of the United States in forming of our government.
