MODULE OUTLINE
Introduction
NOTE: If you have Lessons within your module, you should have an introduction introducing
what the lesson (topic) will be covering. You may also include images if you like; just make
certain that you include the website (resource) where you found the image.

Now that you know how to conduct research and find all of the sources you will need, it’s important that
you take care not to plagiarize any of your material. Of course most people are honest and ethical in
nature, and the majority of problems occur in “accidental plagiarism.” This happens when a writer does
not know how to take notes from the research, correctly incorporate the information into his or her own
writing, or how to create in-text citations for the information they use. This module will give you some tips
on taking notes, incorporating material, and citing your sources in MLA style.

The learning activities section is a way for you to sequence your students learning. Consider this as
your way of guiding them to understanding and scaffolding their learning. Be creative, use the right
tool for the right objectives and whenever possible integrate knowledge checks with feedback and/or
reflection. Be sure to provide an overview of each activity in the sequence and how it will help the
learner achieve the learning objectives. Add learning activities as necessary.
This is where you would insert lessons if you choose to use them: Lesson 1, Lesson 2, etc. See the
example below.
Be sure to delete from this template, any activities that you do not plan to use in this module. For
example, if you will not use a “Interactive Case Study”, then delete the entire activity on Interactive
Case Study.

In this lesson, you will:
1. Read from your eBook and complete Practice Activities

Watch the following videos for further instruction on taking notes and integrating quotations into your
essay. You will focus on summarizing, paraphrasing, and quoting. It’s important to know the difference
between these three, how to use them while you research to help you avoid plagiarism, and how to
incorporate the quotations correctly into your essay. You will take a short quiz on the information in the
videos, so I recommend you take notes while you watch.

Reading
Read chapter 14, section 9 in your eBook
Read this section of your eBook that discusses how to create in-text citations. In-text citations are how
you cite (give credit to) your research source within your research essay. This is different from the Works
Cited Page (the list at the end of your essay that lists all of your sources.) Knowing how to correctly
create in-text citations is a skill that is extremely important for writing research papers, so take your time
and really concentrate on this section.

20pts (Karen- they don’t submit this until module 9)
“Definition Working Outline”
Directions:
1. Go back and look at the research questions you- and your classmates- came up with for your topic.
Choose six of them to research.
2. Open and download the “Research Questions-Working Outline” document. (attach document)
3. At this point, you can decide to either print it off, write on it in pen, scan, and resubmit it- OR you can
type directly in the document, save it, and resubmit. Either way is acceptable.
4. Type (or write) your questions into it- one in each box, starting with Roman numeral II.
5. Research and find the answers to these questions. Type (or write) the answers into box under the
appropriate question. You should have between 3-5 answers/notes under each question. (This is why it is
important not to have questions that are too simple or that cannot be elaborated on with details- review
interactive lecture from module 7 for reminders).
6. You MUST summarize, paraphrase, or quote from the research and indicate it by putting a “S”,
“P”, or “Q” by each answer.
7. You MUST also give the correct in-text citation for each answer you type.
This assignment will be due early in Module 9 to give you a little more time to work on it.
Grading and Feedback (If applicable)
