The Rise and

Communism
Take 3 minutes to look over these new
and old vocabulary terms
Karl Marx
Karl Marx is known as the ‘Father of Communism’
He wrote the Communist Manifesto in 1848, which
inspired the creation of the Communist Party
Communism is also called Marxism
It is an extreme form of Socialism – the major
difference between the two is that Communism
is a political system
Marx described three necessary phases
toward achieving his idea of utopia…
Phase 1: A revolution must occur to overthrow the current political
and economic system
Phase 2: A dictator or leader must take total control over the
working class or proletariat who must rise up against the
bourgeoisie. The new government must have total control of the
people.
Phase 3: Utopia is achieved and all non-communists are destroyed.
In Marxist utopia, everyone would share wealth and property
equally. There is no more private property and the government is
abolished.
A revolution MUST occur to overthrow the current economic and political system.
A dictator or leader must take total control over the working class or proletariat who must
rise up against the bourgeoisie. The new government must have total control of the people
Utopia is achieved and all non-communists are destroyed.
