1.) 91.3 The Summit – NEW!

Organization Description: 91.3 The Summit is Akron-Canton's home for true music diversity now serving the Youngstown area at 90.7! We are locally owned and operated, member
supported public radio. The Summit plays a wide variety of music, including Rock, Pop, Folk,
Acoustic, Local, Reggae, and much more.
Position: Radio Intern
Compensation: Unpaid
Job Description: The internship position will consist of the following five parts:
 Part 1: Public Service and Community - learn to write Public Service Announcements for
the radio station; help with general office duties (stuffing envelopes, organization, etc.;
assist with station and member events
 Part 2: Membership and Underwriting - help with/observe monthly membership
mailings; help with/observe monthly underwriter billing; observe building and editing of
daily program logs; help with member premium mailings
 Part 3: Marketing and Events - assist in implementing new media marketing strategies
through improving web design, using e-mail promotion, direct mail, billboard, and nontraditional public relations categories; follow-up on the advertising and marketing
effectiveness using tools for measuring and ensuring the station’s return on investment;
work with area non-profit organizations to explore potential collaborations, and track onair public service announcements; assist in passing out marketing materials at area events
 Part 4: Programming and Production - observe recording of weather breaks and Public
Service Announcements; observe merging of station logs; prep and decommission station
vehicle and gear for remote events; observe DJs in the studio as they record their shows
 Part 5: Music - help monitor music charts for song research; sort new music CDs
· Help prepare weekly playlist reports for email; compile information on new artists for
the DJs
Interns will also take a one-day field trip to our transmitter site with our engineer, and will be
expected to assist with station events and studio performances that happen during the course of
the internship.

Position: Fundraising/Special Events Intern

Job Description: The intern will develop fundraising, event planning, marketing, public
relations, sales, and administrative skills through hands-on work experience in a non-profit
healthcare environment including the responsibilities of:
 Assist with planning, organizing, publicizing and implementing special events.
 Work with local businesses to plan, coordinate and implement Children’s Miracle
Network campaigns.
 Assist with plans for Children’s Miracle Network Radiothon.
 Assist with plans for school-based fundraising campaigns.
 Prepare and organize mailings.
 Write and edit patient success stories.
 Help with securing sponsors for special events.
 Assist with developing fundraising-related promotional materials and publicity including
writing press releases and contacting local media.

Position: Marketing and Public Relations Intern

Job Description: A marketing and public relations intern would play a significant role in
moving forward both our mission and goals by designing and implementing ways to promote to
the public in all that we have to offer them, their pets and animals in need. Responsibilities will
include:
 Redesign and update the Animal Charity website
 Be the main facilitator of the Animal Charity Facebook page
 Take photos and develop creative ways to showcase adoptable animals at Animal Charity
 Use marketing skills to further promote the mission of Animal Charity
The intern will receive:
 Hands-on experience in marketing research and presentation development through social
media– objective will be measured by tracking traffic on the website and Facebook page
 A realistic look at targeted marketing and communications for a nonprofit agency –
objective will be measured on how effectively intern presents needs of agency to the public
and how the needs are met or addressed through marketing/public relation techniques

 Learn to be a part of a team for a humane society where the motivation for all staff
members and volunteers is the welfare of animals. – objective will be measured based on
monthly feedback by office manager/board members
Qualifications:

Minimum 2.5 overall GPA



Organization Description: In Spring 2009, a group of educators, businesspersons, and civic and
nonprofit leaders came together to consider a new effort to foster significantly better outcomes
for students at each educational level in Ashtabula, Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull
counties, a pre-kindergarten through college or P-16 initiative was formed. Such initiatives have
gained national attention and have shown promise for connecting pre-school, elementary,
middle, high school, and postsecondary education to create a comprehensive, integrated system
of student learning.
Position: On-Site Facilitator Intern
Compensation: Stipend plus mileage reimbursement
Job Description: The role of the on-site facilitator is to work closely with the Executive
Director and the Mentoring Program Manager to oversee the LEADING forward mentoring
program. Responsibilities include room set up, securing and facilitating student transportation,
some curricula delivery and evaluation, communicating with students, families and school
districts about student progress. Facilitator will also be responsible for collecting student’s
grades. This position requires a high level of confidentiality.
The position is part-time (15-20 hours per week). The student will work two part or one full
week day (based on student schedule) and up to five hours each Saturday.
Qualifications: Must have mentored or volunteered to help high school students, have good
understanding of program/event management requirements and process, strong interpersonal
skills, strong written and oral communication and presentation skills. Preference for, and
experience in, working collaboratively, organized and efficient work practices, ability to manage
time. Education or Business major preferred. Word, Excel, PowerPoint required; Word Press &
ACCESS knowledge preferred.

Position: Foundation Intern

Job Description: The intern will be responsible for supporting the mission of the HMHP
Development Foundation by assisting with various projects throughout the Foundation including
but not limited to:
 Work with Events Administrator on special events and meeting planning, which may
include a golf outing, a run event, cocktail parties, wine tasting, and recognition events.
 Assist Database Administrator with input and report generating in DonorPerfect.
 Assist with the publishing and distribution of Foundation Newsletter.
 Help to coordinate and track Annual Appeal efforts.
Qualifications: Hold or in the process of obtaining a degree in Business, Communications,

Organization Description: The Mahoning Valley College Access Program (MVCAP) provides
FREE advising to students throughout Columbiana, Mahoning, and Trumbull Counties on
college admissions and financial aid with a mission to increase the number of students in the
Mahoning Valley who pursue education after high school graduation.
Position: Financial Aid Advisor Intern
Compensation: $12 per hour
Job Description: The Mahoning Valley College Access Program is seeking a Financial-Aid
Advisor Intern to advise students in area high schools. This person will report to the MVCAP
Executive Director. Under direct and indirect supervision, the employee is responsible for
advising students and/or parents on filing college applications (online and paper); securing
available financial assistance through completion of the online Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA); and assisting eligible seniors to complete the MVCAP Last-Dollar
Scholarship Application. The employee may be required to speak at informational workshops
regarding college admissions and financial opportunities available to program advisees. By
implementing the MVCAP 16-point advising program, he or she will have the opportunity to
change the trajectory of students’ lives.
Qualifications: Preference will be given to holders of a Bachelor’s degree; undergraduates with
junior or senior status and at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA. College admissions and/or financial-aid
experience is recommended, but not mandatory; graduation from Youngstown City or Warren
City Schools is a plus. Must possess strong computer skills, specifically with MS Word and
Internet research. The candidate must establish relationships with students and parents,
demonstrate strong organizational skills, display excellent interpersonal and communications

skills, and show the ability to work effectively with diverse groups. Relevant training may be
required.

event.

Organization Description: Neighborhood Ministries provides high impact after-school
programs, family assistance services, and job training for residents living in low income
neighborhoods in Mahoning County, Ohio. These programs and services include Bible studies,
food distributions, clothing banks, emergency assistance, transportation, summer parks programs
for youth, and so much more. We provide our services free of charge to those that need them and
are able to do so because of the faithful support and commitment of hundreds of volunteers,
churches and families.
Position: Program Intern

Job Description: The responsibilities of the intern will be as follows:
 Afterschool Programming
 Homework help, make up folders for reading and math grade level appropriate, keep
track of work completed, check work, make and keep contact with students’ teachers to
help keep them on task.
 Assist with planning activities i.e. devotions, games, crafts, supervise gameroom, serve
meals.
 Develop lesson plans.
 Leading weekly groups to be determined i.e. teen girls, teen boys, K-2 group, 3-6 grade
girls, 3-6 grade boys, supervise adult group led by outside agencies.
 Possible transportation from schools.
 Computer work- making weekly attendance forms, weekly name tags with places to mark
for rewards.
 Possible entering statistical data and producing reports on a monthly, quarterly and as
needed basis.
 Coordinate the already established reading program that test children for their reading
abilities and to keep track of testing, progress etc.
 Establish a similar program for math.
 Supervise and proctor the computer lab for both children and adults at separate times.
 Assist with or plan a Christmas celebration for families.
 Assist with Thanksgiving (food) and Christmas (food, clothing, toys, household items)
distributions.
 Assist with Family assistance activities i.e. food boxes, monthly food distributions,
emergency food boxes, paperwork, other assistance (diapers, toilet paper etc.), resume
writing.

Job Description: OH WOW!’s Recycling Coordinator will take the lead in helping OH WOW!
to implement cost-effective and environmentally-sound solid waste reduction and litter
prevention programs, the outcomes of which would be:
 The development and implementation of a standard operating procedure on site that will
help OH WOW! effectively recycle commonly recycled items such as newspaper,
magazines, brochures, metal food and beverage cans, and glass bottles and plastic
containers either through Mahoning County’s recycling program, or on site in STEMrelated activities and programming.
 The development and implementation of outreach programs that will help OH WOW!
communicate with visitors the need for and use of commonly recycled items such as
newspaper, magazines, brochures, metal food and beverage cans, and glass bottles and
plastic containers on-site at OH WOW!.
 The establishment of a formal relationship with Mahoning County’s Green Team,
Youngstown State University recycling and its re:CREATE programs, which include a
popular Materials Exchange.
 The use of a wide variety of media marketing tools to extend our message regarding the
STEM components of all of these initiatives.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will demonstrate that he/she has excellent
interpersonal and oral/written communication skills; ability and interest in
working with a broad spectrum of people; will be energetic, self-motivated,

Job Description: Intern will assist and perform a variety of duties associated with community
development programs, as well as basic administrative tasks, working closely with and taking
directives from the Program Director and/or Operations Manager.
Duties: Can include, but are not limited to: canvassing, performing various errands,
administrative work, tasks associated with board-up/clean-up efforts in Warren city
neighborhoods, as well as research and/or perform data entry and will be expected to positively
and professionally represent TNP throughout the community.

people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. Ability to perform manual labor. Possess a
flexible temperament with a desire to perform a variety of tasks as directed. Possess motivation,

driver’s license and reliable vehicle and an interest in working in and improving the various
neighborhoods in Warren.

Organization Description: In February 2009, the Youngstown Neighborhood Development
Corporation (YNDC), a multifaceted neighborhood development organization, was launched in
partnership with the City of Youngstown and The Raymond John Wean Foundation to catalyze
strategic neighborhood reinvestment throughout the City of Youngstown. The YNDC will
transform neighborhoods into meaningful places where people invest time, money, and energy
into their homes and neighborhoods; where neighbors have the capacity to manage day to day

choice for all.
Position: Program Intern
Compensation: Stipend for 15 to 30 hours per week, evening and weekend work required.
Job Description: Under the general supervision of the Deputy Director, the Intern will conduct
neighborhood development and administrative activities related to communications,
neighborhood event and meeting coordination, programming and quality of life issues in focus
neighborhoods. The primary objective of this internship is to motivate residents to view
themselves as vital stakeholders in the transformation of their neighborhood.
Responsibilities:
Programming:
 Assist Program Coordinators with program logistics and outreach.
 Assist with preparation of marketing materials.
Resident Engagement and Relationship Building:
 Conduct extensive on the ground outreach in YNDC focus neighborhoods (eg: door
to door, mailings, flyers, phone calls, newsletters)
 Work with existing neighborhood groups and other neighborhood stakeholders to
address issues related to neighborhood transformation.
 Design and implement ongoing outreach efforts to ensure broad based and
neighborhood resident participation in planning and development.
 Build trusting relationships with a diverse group of neighborhood residents and
stakeholders.
 Maintain a consistent and visible presence in the focus neighborhoods.
 Develop and maintain a database of resident leadership and volunteers for each focus
neighborhood.
Community Building:

Coordinate and produce neighborhood events and small block projects such as
neighborhood picnics, clean up/paint up events, educational events, and community
dialogue.
 Serve as a central information and referral resource for all things related to
neighborhood development.
 Develop, maintain, publish and distribute a neighborhood newsletter with a calendar
of events.
 Assist neighborhood groups with addressing quality of life issues.
 Work with YNDC partners (city departments, MVOC, MYCAP, social service
agencies, etc.) to increase the likelihood that all eligible and qualified residents in
focus neighborhoods are accessing all services available to them.
Neighborhood Planning:
 Identify, quantify, and maintain a database of neighborhood resources.
 Facilitate resident involvement in neighborhood development and planning efforts.
 Identify opportunities for grant funding related to neighborhood development.
Administrative:
 Maintain records that document outreach activities, resident input/involvement, and
neighborhood events.
 Assist staff with activities as needed.
Qualifications:
 Bachelor’s degree in business/public administration, marketing, nonprofit management,
urban planning, social studies, or related field from an accredited college or university.
 Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and
Publisher.
 High level of professional ethics.
 Ability to effectively communicate the organization’s mission and vision.
 Ability to work effectively with key partners and manage relationships with program
clients and neighborhood residents.
 Ability to manage/coordinate/prioritize multiple outreach efforts, project and events
simultaneously.
 Ability to work independently of and in collaboration with other staff of the organization.
 Demonstrated commitment to neighborhood based collaborative processes.
 Proven experience working with neighborhood constituencies in urban neighborhoods.
