In 2005 a part of the Ehtasab Bureau has been brought under JIB of the ISI
Inter-Services Intelligence

Formed in 1948 at the initiative of Major General Cawthorne, Deputy Chief of
Pakistan army and Major General Rees, chief of Indo-Pakistan Border force.

Motivation provided by British Home and Foreign Offices.
3.
Until military takeover in 1958, ISI worked as part of MI and reported through the
Army Chief.
ISI was basically formed under UK supervision as a wing of military intelligence to serve UK’s
strategic ops in Afghanistan, Central Asia part of USSR and West China.
ISI HQ located next to Kashmir Highway, a gray building skirted by Jinnah Stadium, Rose Garden,
Gool Market, Sitara market, about 5 KM from Islamabad Dawn Office. Two other offices at Warid Market
and Constitution Avenue
