ABSTRACT
This study is to depict the impact of information and communication Technology in
secondary school. The project work was carried out with the use of questionnaire. The
questionnaire was distributed to sample size of hundred (100) respondent which were
randomly ‘The finding raveled that ICT were used in secondary schools and contributed
to the schools with vital impact based on those finding recommendation was made for
teachers/students that are not computer literate to have a positive step to their differences
so as to flow along with the knowledgeable step towards it, more so effective and
efficient power supply supplement with standby generator should be provided for the
schools for effective usage of ICT in secondary school.

CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the study
This research is to study the impact of information and communication
technology (ICT) in schools. Communication and technology agency (Becta) on
behalf of the department of education and skills (DFES) to analyse the impact of
information and communication technology (ICT) on school sector across
Abeokuta North Local Government in Ogun state. In draws on range of publicity
available literature, research finding, statement of problems, seeking out
evidences of where the introduction of ICT has made reference to the day today
experiences of teachers and students in the classroom and more widely with a
focus on the compulsory school sector and how the school are able to make use of
various types of technologies to aid the teaching they render. Everyday new
technological advances affect the way information is handled in schools and
information centers. The impact of new technology affect by schools in every
aspect of computing technology, communication technology, and mass storage
technology across the students.
The ICT has been from it grassroot an integral part of learning, rather than
appendix or adjunct.
Oyedun (2007) define information and communication technology (ICT) as those
materials found in schools that support learning, teaching and research processes,
over the pass twenty-seven years schools have been affected by changes in
information communication technology. The rate of change is still accelerating in
the area of introduction of various information technologies. This trend has lead
to reorganization, change in teaching and learning pattern and demand for new
skills, job retraining and reclassification positions. Technology advancement such
as the electronic database, online services, CD Rom and introduction of internet
as transformed access to information.

Rena (2009) stated ICT plays a vital role in modernizing information services in
schools. Application of ICTs are numerous but mainly use in converting paperprint records in the centre process of storage retrieval and dissemination of
effective teaching and learning activities in schools.

Statement of the problem
The problem, this research intends to find out include:
1. Facilities of ICT
2. Professionals to handle the facilities
3. Students attitude towards the use of ICT
4. Government and the school authority involvement and encouragement
5. Teachers interest in the use of ICT In teaching and learning
6. Capital investment to buy hardware, software and standby generator for the
schools.
7. Shortage power supply and insufficient of the expertise.

Purpose of the study
This research is to examine the positive impact of ICT in senior secondary
schools, in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Objective of the study
The objective of this study is seeking at the evidences of ICT today, today
experiences of teacher and students in classroom with a focus on the
compulsory school sector.
1. Is to build a big picture of the impact of ICT to the schools sector.
2. To the depict the key stage attainment in the context of ICT usage for
teaching and learning process.
3. To ascertain the level of computerization in schools
4. To determine the usefulness of ICT in schools
5. To determine the efficiency and effectiveness of ICT in schools.

Significance of the study
(i)
This study is expected to provide a basis for comprehensive information on
information and technology usage and application in schools.
(ii)
The study will establish the existing gaps in adoption of information and
communication technology in school programme in achieving effective teaching and
learning process.
(iii) The result of this study will serve as an additional knowledge for the teachers,
students, information scientist, researchers, lecturers to chart the right course of action for
the use of information and communication technology in education through policy
formulation and implementation.

secondary school?

the students.

4. Wasimi high school
