TEACHER GUIDED INSTRUCTION/LESSON:
1. Pop Art Ice Cream Cones.
Objective: Students will be introduced to the Pop Art food paintings of Wayne Thiebaud and
will then create Pop Art Ice Cream Cone drawing.
Technique: Drawing
Medium: Construction crayons
Vocabulary: Pop Art, Subject Matter, Positive Space, Negative Space, Enlarge
Lesson:
Using Smartboard lesson, explain the style of Pop Art and introduce the Pop Art food paintings
of Wayne Thiebaud. Introduce ice cream cone drawing lesson. Guide students in dividing their
paper into 4 parts.
STUDENT ACTIVITY/PROJECT:
Under teacher guidance students will draw a simplified ice cream cone and cut it out. Next they
will trace it onto the 4 parts of their paper. Students will then color their 4 ice cream cones in
the Pop Art style of Wayne Thiebaud; emphasis on whimsical colors and patterns. Students may
add glitter sprinkles if they choose when drawings are complete.
ASSESSMENT:
1. Teacher observation and feedback during project.
2. Check for understanding of vocabulary.
3. Did student incorporate unique and individual ideas into their design?
RESOURCES/SUPPLIES:
1. 9x12 black paper, construction crayons
2. glitter for sprinkles
