Special Presentation – Phil Perkins (PP) Chair of Toodyay Tourism Committee (TTC) Revitalised 18 months ago with a key task to develop the Valley for all Seasons tourism attraction and accomodation brochure, fed through to WA Tourism and key distributors. This brochure is open for advertising. TTC are looking at tourism related problems presently and like to work on some new tourism initiatives with TCCI. Feedback on one of biggest tourism issues is shops not trading 7 days a week, lack of decent eating venues, issues with fewer services on Mondays and Tuesdays particularly, lunch venues for big groups and accommodation availability can be issues. Need better quality in town accommodation to attract more tourists, overall a need for greater level of customer service and high quality products and services so the tourist experience is high and encourages repeat tourism and word of mouth. Many new businesses wanting to establish and existing one’s feel they are having issues with the Shire and disincentives for entrepreneur development. Entry statement board still an issue, signage in town and access to public toilets particularly disabled toilet and independent seating along Main Street for elderly. Lack and need for taxi / transport options in town. Need a bus loading bay in Stirling Tce, access to cold drinking water for tourists in street. Feedback that Herald would be better if could run fortnightly and allow for better advertising of local events/services. New initiative suggestion was for TCCI to investigate creating Toodyay money currency that can be spent in local businesses e.g. like Bristol Pound. Shire of Collie has created similar incentive – Actions: Secretary to find out more details re Collie currency / vouchers. April TCCI meeting invitation sent to all TTC members as well and we ask CEO from Shire and Tourism rep to come along and discuss issues.
