QUALIFICATIONS:
It is recommended that this position be limited to a certified educator in the state of Mississippi.
This individual should have a background in educational technology both in the workplace and from an accredited institution. Given the curriculum and pedagogical background requirements, it is recommended that this person hold an advanced degree in educational administration, educational leadership, educational technology, or curriculum development from an accredited institution, and have at least three years of teaching experience.

REPORTS TO: Superintendent
JOB GOAL:
The Director of Technology functions as one of the administrative heads of the Department of
Technology Support Services and is one of two final departmental authorities in matters of policy and operation. The Director of Technology organizes, directs, and oversees education and information technology activities; plans and manages a comprehensive and integrated education and information technology program to deliver cost effective, reliable, timely, and high-quality educational technology equipment and services; acts as the district’s primary authority on education technology issues; coordinates the implementation of the district’s technology plan; works collaboratively with central office and school-based personnel to use and integrate educational technology in the instructional program.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned, including but not limited to:
DEPARTMENTAL:
1.
Establishes the mission of the Department of Technology Support Services through and in response to the assessment of district needs and priorities
2.
Directs and participates in the development of goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the Department of Technology Support Services
3.
Plans, directs, supervises, and coordinates activities of department personnel
4.
Responsible for the supervision, training, and evaluation of training and data management personnel
LEADERSHIP and PLANNING:
1.
Participates in curriculum design team meetings and leadership team meetings with other department heads; discusses and reviews overall district issues and priorities; may serve on special task forces or direct the conduct of projects that have a general district-wide impact

Assumes a leadership role in developing and implementing the district plan for instructional use of technology
3.
Collaborates with principals, department heads, teachers, and others who will implement the district technology plan
4.
Facilitates meetings with committees to implement the district’s technology plan
FISCAL MANAGEMENT:
1.
Understands the district budget, budgeting process, and spending process, and works within this system to secure adequate resources for educational technology integration
2.
Oversees preparation and administration of the department’s budgets
3.
Manages the allocation and expenditures of funds for the department
4.
Helps ensure that the school-level budgets and the district budget adequately support the district’s technology plan
5.
Ensures equity when budgeting for and distributing resources
6.
Collaborates with administration and faculty to write grants for implementation of educational technology
7.
Assists the district in obtaining outside funding by participating in grant planning and proposal writing
8.
Assists in the coordination of federal e-rate program for the district
HARDWARE and SOFTWARE:
1.
Plans and directs a comprehensive and integrated technology plan pertaining to district-wide needs and use of related equipment and technologies involving areas such as computers, networking systems, and telecommunications
2.
Coordinates and reviews acquisition and maintenance of hardware and software
3.
Assesses current use and availability of equipment at each of the schools and departments to determine if relocation of equipment will provide a more efficient use of technologies
4.
Directs systems design, development and implementation of new and/or enhanced systems
5.
Ensures district-wide adherence to information technology standards including those for hardware, software, and local area networks
6.
Works with contributors to accept and place donated equipment
7.
Performs other duties as assigned
IN-SERVICE and TRAINING:
1.
Oversees the development and implementation of the district’s technology training plan
2.
Oversees the planning/scheduling of technology training that will facilitate successful technology integration in the classroom
ASSESSMENT:
1.
Coordinates the preparation of district test forms with the Department of Instructional
Programs
2.
Manages the district assessment program to ensure accurate test scanning and reporting
3.
Imports data from district’s student information system to the district’s assessment program

DATA MANAGEMENT:
1.
Oversees the administration and management of the district’s student information system database
2.
Oversees monthly reporting of data to state department and serves as the final reporting agent for district’s monthly data to state department
3.
Oversees and assists with student data collection and data entry, grading and reporting, and the import/export of student data
4.
Oversees the coordination with the district’s personnel department
RESEARCH and EVALUATION:
1.
Assists in the evaluation of software, hardware, and courseware
2.
Participates in district research projects to evaluate instructional use of technology
3.
Stays abreast of educational technology trends and successes of other school districts and technology programs on a local, state, and national level
4.
Designs and encourages pilot projects
INFORMATION DISSEMINATION:
1.
Confers with other departments, agencies, public officials, vendors, and contract providers regarding education and information technology projects, programs, plans, and activities
2.
Disseminates technology-related information throughout the district via newsletters, e-mail, district presentations, etc
3.
Actively participates in local and regional educational conferences with emphasis on educational technology and instructional/curricular programs
4.
Oversees the development, design, and updates to the district’s website and social networks
COMMUNITY RELATIONS:
1.
Speaks to parent and professional groups, publicizing the district technology plan and progress
2.
Encourages schools to have technology-related programs for parents with students and teachers demonstrating various uses of technology in the classroom
3.
Works with the community education programs to assist community members and parents in use of computers and other technologies
INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP:
1.
Works to improve the overall quality of education received by students in the district by being an educational change agent
2.
Participates in the development of curricular standards and benchmarks to encourage appropriate use of technology
3.
Works with educators to develop lesson plans and activities involving the use of technology to facilitate the attainment of educational goals
OTHER:
1.
Performs other duties as assigned

ADDITIONAL LICENSES:
It is recommended that this individual possess industry-standard certifications that may prove beneficial in the position (e.g. A + , IC3, etc.). This individual must possess and maintain a valid
Mississippi driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
235 days annually with salary in accord with the Administrative Salary Schedule as approved by the
Board of Trustees
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the evaluation procedure for administrative employees of the Gulfport School District.
