Responsibility for
: Instruct and assess students on the range of skills and
competences in practical sessions within the College’s Salons
and Workshops.
Assistant Director – Hair, Beauty, Hospitality and Retail
Operations
: Promoting the welfare of children and young people
Main Purpose of Job:
To provide innovative and engaging training and assessment of learners up to level 3, support
learner progress through assessment in the workplace and curriculum delivery in order to ensure
that the provision:

Meets the needs of learners, employers and other stakeholders

Is of the highest possible quality in terms of learner outcomes and learner/employer
satisfaction

Is effective, efficient and provide excellent value for money

Reflects the vision, mission, aims and values of the college

Is innovative, developmental and sector leading

Promotes a culture of excellence and equality

Is judged as outstanding at next Ofsted/QAA Inspections.
The post-holder will be a member of the Faculty of Enterprise and Services within the Hair,
Beauty, Hospitality and Retail Operations area.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
(1)
Reflect the vision, mission, aims and values of the college.
Instruction/Tutor
(2)
Instruct students on the range of skills and competences in practical sessions within the
College’s Salons and Workshops.
(3)
Effective management of learners to ensure they are fully engaged and achieve to their full
potential.
(4)
Promoting a professional and safe working environment.
(5)
Accurate completion of assessment documentation (both e-portfolio and paperbased).
(6)
Carry out practical assessments as and when required.
(7)
Have an appropriate timetable for practical sessions within the College’s Salons/Workshops.
(8)
Be aware and be responsive to developments within the faculty and industry.
(9)
Develop and maintain relationships with employers*.
(10) Carry out on-site risk assessments to ensure employers have appropriate health and safety
arrangements in place if required*.
(11) Ensure that all learners have a comprehensive workplace induction, including Health and
Safety*.
(12) Ensure that employers are aware of their responsibilities in relation to equality, diversity
and inclusion as well as other relevant legislation*.
(13) Co-ordinate the progress of all elements of the work-based programme/apprenticeship*.
(14) Facilitate Initial and Diagnostic Assessment*.
(15) Develop productive and inclusive working relationship with learners, as necessary.
(16) Deliver underpinning knowledge and functional/key skills, where appropriate.
Work Placement Assessment
(17) Liaise closely with other tutors on the programme to ensure that the ILP is closely
monitored.
(18) Effectively co-ordinate on and off the job learning*.
(19) Undertake vocational assessments in the workplace*.
(20) Support students in their studies, preparing assessment records and reports on student
progress.
(21) Contribute to the Course Review and Internal Verification processes and to the Self
Assessment of the Faculty.

*This post is based at South Cheshire College however there may be the need to carry out
vocational assessments and associated duties off site.

Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in Hairdressing 

Assessor/Verifier qualifications (or be working
