NEW REPORT HIGHILGHTS OBESITY IN SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN
AbilityPath.org has launched a new report, “Finding Balance: Obesity and Children with Special
Needs” in an effort to highlight the need to bring special needs children into the national conversation on obesity. This landmark study is the first to focus exclusively on how the obesity epidemic affects children with disabilities and special needs. “Finding Balance” brings together in one place for the first time not only the devastating extent of the problem and its complex causes, but also presents practical and carefully researched solutions for families and others caring for children with disabilities and special needs.
The second in a series of groundbreaking reports released by Abilitypath.org, “Finding Balance” takes the national campaign against obesity to the population that may well be the most affected, and has –until now—been excluded from the conversation. The report shows why policy makers, educational and health professionals must include children with special needs and disabilities in all efforts to combat the nation’s obesity epidemic. The report is both a resource guide and a call to action.
By treating obesity as not just a health issue, but also one of human dignity, the report offers help and hope to millions of American families.
The report can be read in full at www.abilitypath.org/obesityreport .

Dear ___________,
We are sending this letter to urge you to join us in bringing children with special needs into the national conversation on obesity. Children with disabilities and special needs are 38% more likely to be obese than their counterparts, yet they are often left out of public and private discussions surrounding the obesity epidemic in America.
AbilityPath.org has released “Finding Balance: Obesity and Children with Special Needs” — a landmark report highlighting the epidemic of obesity in the special needs community and outlining innovative solutions for families, caregivers and professionals. As the diagnoses of disabilities like autism rises, the obesity risk will also continue to grow to dangerous levels.
Finding Balance was be released in collaboration with Special Olympics and Best Buddies
International, the country’s premier organizations representing those with intellectual disabilities and special needs.
Finding Balance is the second in a series of groundbreaking reports produced by
Abilitypath.org, an online resource and social community for parents and professionals serving the needs of adults and children with special needs. This landmark report is the first to focus exclusively on how the obesity epidemic affects children with special needs while providing innovative solutions. Finding Balance follows Walk a Mile in Their Shoes, Abilitypath.org’s acclaimed report on bullying of children with special needs, which prompted a federal government response to combat the problem.
We know that with your help, we can bring the special needs community into the national conversation on obesity.
Sincerely,
{YOUR NAME}
{YOUR COMPANY}
