• Create a clear and inspirational vision of the desired
outcome
• Align the vision with broader organizational strategies
• Translate the vision into manageable action steps
• Communicate vision to enroll/enlist staff, sponsors and
customers

Purpose of a mission statement
• To outline a common set of goals and beliefs
• Paints the “big picture” of why the
organization exists
• Gives employees and customers a sense that
there are clear guiding principles

• Jot down these words or phrases in
large letters, each on a separate Post-it
