The Pre-Teaching 2015 spring term intern at Henry W. Grady High School (Grady) will support a teacher in the implementation of the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards for Mathematics or the Georgia Performance Standards for Science (life or physical). The specific discipline focus of the internship will be dependent upon the applicant. The emphasis of the experience will be on meeting the needs of a wide spectrum of learners including those with learning and behavioral challenges. All applicants are required to discuss the internship with an academic advisor to discuss the impact of the experience on planned graduation dates and with a financial aid advisor (if applicable) to discuss possible conflicts with financial aid policies. Dates and schedule The internship will occur during the fall term of 2015 (August 17 – December 12, 2015). The specific day/time schedule will be determined by the mentor teacher, the intern, and the administration. Schedule, stipend and credit hours The intern will work 20 hours per week for 16 weeks at $10/hour for a maximum of 320 hours and $3200. No pay is available for overtime. The internship qualifies for six audit credit internship hours through the Georgia Tech Center for Career Discovery and Development (C2D2). The Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL) will provide the stipend, not C2D2. Internships available one Responsibilities Interns will abide by all policies set forth by Atlanta Public Schools, Centennial Academy, and Georgia Tech. The interns will be responsible for carrying out all responsibilities assigned during the internship. Interns are responsible for submitting the proper paperwork to CETL in order to ensure payment. Interns are also responsible for following all necessary procedures for registration of the internship with C2D2. Information is available upon acceptance of a position. Internship credit hours The internship qualifies for six internship audit credit hours through the C2D2. Interns do not pay tuition or fees for audit credit hours but receive recognition for the internship on their transcripts. Mentor Teacher The intern will have a mentor teacher with whom s/he will spend the entire semester. Additional support will be provided by a Grady administrator and the Georgia Tech Pre-Teaching Advisor. Cumulative Skills Acquisition Timeline Interns will develop fundamental teaching and classroom skills during the internship. Internship Responsibilities The interns must abide by all policies set forth by Atlanta Public Schools, Grady High School, and Georgia Tech C2D2.
