2015 PCS Flu Shot Program Flu shots will begin being offered at PCS worksites on October 5th. Flu shot clinics will be open to any PCS employee, spouse, dependents (16 and older) and retirees. PCS employee, spouse, dependents (16 and older) and retirees with active PCS Humana health insurance will receive the flu shot at no cost. A Humana insurance card must be presented at the site before you will receive the vaccination. No exceptions. PCS employee, spouse, dependents (16 and older) and retirees without Humana health insurance can attend any location and pay $32 (cash or check) for the flu vaccine. A receipt can be issued if requested. The consent forms will be 2 part carbonless copies this year, so you will not be able to print and complete before you go to the site. They will need to be completed when you arrive at the location. Please check in at the front office of the location you choose to go to and they will direct you to the room where the vaccines will be given. If you are unable to attend one of the scheduled PCS sites, you may go to your primary physician’s office or the pharmacy counter at CVS, Wal-Mart, Walgreens, or Publix. There is no fee for the vaccine at these locations. a. You will receive 200 Humana Vitality Points for receiving the flu vaccine. New information: If you receive the flu vaccine at a PCS site or your primary’s office, the points will be automatically credited to your Vitality account within 4-6 weeks. If you receive the flu vaccine at a pharmacy counter, you will need to self-submit to Vitality documentation that you received the vaccine(i.e. receipt or documentation from pharmacy). The schedule, consent form and further information are also posted at www.pcsb.org/wellness. Information specific to the 2015-16 Influenza season can be found at the CDC website: www.cdc.gov/flu/about/season/flu-season-2014-2015.htm. If you have any questions, please contact Dawn Handley @ handleyd@pcsb.org. Logistically it is impossible to have flu vaccines offered at all the PCS worksites. This year, new schools have been added and more after student hours for middle schools. Please keep in mind that you can go to your primary physician’s office or any pharmacy counter and receive a flu vaccine free of charge with your Humana insurance card. According to the CDC: Flu seasons can be unpredictable and at times severe. Most people who get influenza will recover in a few days to less than two weeks, but some people will develop complications (such as pneumonia) as a result of the flu, some of which can be lifethreatening and result in death. Anywhere from 5% to 20% of the nation’s adult population will develop influenza each year and more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu complications. Anyone can get the flu (even healthy people), and serious problems from influenza can happen at any age, but some people are at higher risk of developing serious flurelated complications if they get sick. The flu vaccine is one of the best protections against the flu and its complications. Your health and well-being is important to us so please take advantage of this convenient benefit. Thank you.
