class session at Falvey Library. Each student will choose one leading
health indicator from “Healthy People 2020” (see below) to research as a
library learning activity. Conduct a library search of your topic and find at
least 3 articles listed that are relevant to nursing. Develop a reference list of
the three articles using APA format. Your professor will review your
reference list at the beginning of class the next day.

What is Healthy People 2020?
Healthy People 2020 is a comprehensive set of disease prevention and health
promotion objectives for the Nation to achieve over the second decade of the
new century. Created by scientists both inside and outside of Government, it
identifies a wide range of public health priorities and specific, measurable
objectives.
Mission:
Healthy People 2020 strives to:
1. Identify nationwide health improvement priorities.
2. Increase public awareness and understanding of the determinants of
health, disease, and disability and the opportunities for progress.
3. Provide measureable objectives and goals that are applicable at the
national, state, and local levels.
4. Engage multiple sectors to take actions to strengthen policies and
improve practices that are driven by the best available evidence and
