Harriett Tubman by Chalon
• Harriet Tubman ran away from
slavery an into freedom and was hit
with a 2 lb brick when she was
trying to escape. She helped other
slave escape through the
underground railroad
•Harriet Tubman was a hero because she led over 300 slaves to
safety and not one got caught. She was very proud of all of
them. She established the route that helped other slaves escape
from the south to gain their freedom in the north.

invented the first airplane and made the first engine

• Elizabeth Blackwell is a medical
hero. She became the first woman
doctor in 1850. She opened a
hospital and a college for women
in America.
•I chose Elizabeth Blackwell as my hero becausee she
was the first woman doctor and has inspired so many
women to become doctors and surgeons. In 1869, she
left for England and in 1874 she opened the London
School of Medecine for women.

• Corrie Ten Boom was a
Dutch Lady who took jews
and hid them from the Nazis
during WWII. Her family
had to go to a concentration
camp.
•Corrie Ten Boom survived the camp and helped her sister Betsie who
was very sick
• I chose this person as my Hero because she was a Christian and her
actions were inspiring.

Dr. Edward Jenner is a hero to me because he loved the world. He wanted
to give something to us, he did give us something no person wouldn't love;
He cured the killing deseise known as smallpox. He killed variola, (The
scientific name for smallpox.) forever. That is why he is a hero to me.
He is now interested
in Fossils,
Hibernation and
medicine

• Marie Curie is a Scientist
Hero. In 1903 she received
the Nobel Prize in Physics
with her husband Pierre
Curie.
•Marie Curie devoted her life to Science. She was not able to
study in Poland, so she came to Paris to continue her
research.
•Marie Curie was my hero because she discovered radium
which helped cancer and many other things.

scientist. She was born in
Warsaw, Poland in 1867.
She had three sisters and one
brother.
In 1891, M arie moved to
Paris, France. She studied
math and physics. She was
the best student in her
class.

Pierre Curie. They
worked together in a
lab in Paris.

two daughters. Irene
was born in 1897 and
Eve was born in 1904.

Paris. She also did science

and Pierre discovered
radium. Radium is a white

science. Doctors treated cancer
with it. In 1903, M arie and
Pierre won the Nobel prize in
physics for their work with
radium.
Pierre died in 1906. M arie
kept working in the lab. In
1911, M arie won the Nobel
prize for chemistry. She was

Nobel prizes.
M arie founded the
radium institute in.
Scientists there studied
ways to use radium.
M arie died in 1934. today,
scientists continue her
work in the radium
institute. People
remember marie as a great
