TEACHING EXPERIENCE

LECTURER

Rutgers New Jersey Medical School

Courses:

• Advanced Concepts in Infection, Immunity and Inflammation (2014 – present)

An advanced level course that explores the link between infectious and inflammatory disease states.

Lectures provide students with a better understanding of how dysregulated immune responses can promote chromic inflammation. I present the ‘Innate Immunity” lecture.

LECTURER

University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine

Department of Parasitology

Courses:

• VPTH604 Immunology (2013 – present)

An introductory course in Immunology for students of veterinary medicine. The course is designed to provide students with a working knowledge of the cellular and molecular mechanisms through which the immune system regulates the development of inflammation. Lectures are clinically oriented and provide students with a better understanding of how the immune system can regulate both health and disease. I present the ‘Mucosal Immunology’ lecture.

• CAMB 549 Parasites and Parasitism (2010 – present)

An advanced level course in parasitology that is offered to students in Cell and Molecular Biology

(CAMB). The course is designed to provide a detailed discussion of the biology of parasitism, including the evolution of parasites and their adaptations to parasitic life. There is a major focus on parasites of medical importance and significant discussion of the pathogenesis associated with these infections. I present the ‘Innate Immunity to Helminth Parasites’ lecture.

• CAMB 696 Microbiology, Virology, and Parasitology (2010 – present)

A new discussion-based class offered to senior level CAMB students from the

Microbiology/Virology/Parasitology (MVP) track. The purpose of this course is to discuss recent papers in parasitology research. Each week, a guest faculty member chooses a recent paper that is presented and discussed by the students.
