NROTC
• Tradition of Military Leadership, shaping our Nation’s history
• First Commandant of Marine Corps graduated Penn in 1752
• First Secretary of Navy graduated Penn in 1777
• In 1940 an ROTC unit was started, alongside the V-12 program in 1943
• Introduced a cross town agreement with Drexel and Temple Universities
• Our lasting legacy: Commissioned over 1500 Ensigns and 2nd Lieutenants,
including five Navy Admirals and four Marine Corps Generals

NROTC
• In 1943, V-12 Program started at Villanova, evolving into NROTC in 1946
• Our lasting legacy: Commissioned over 1500 Ensigns and 2nd
Lieutenants, including 25 Navy Admirals and Marine Corps Generals
•Second only to the Naval Academy in producing Admirals/Generals
•In 2004, the commanders of US Naval Forces Atlantic and US Naval
Forces Pacific were both Villanova alumni

Funding

– $200-$400 a month
• Book Stipend
– Only 3 quarters/semesters; $375 per semester or $250 per quarter; can’t
exceed $750
• Tutoring available and paid for by the unit
• Uniforms (provided by unit)
• Room and board is not included with the ROTC scholarship,
HOWEVER each school has their own programs that may supply
a room and board stipend

• For scholarship students only
• University of Pennsylvania: No room or board stipend
• Drexel University Information:
– Full Room, 25% of board (meal plan) covered by University
and the remaining 75% is covered by student
• Temple University Information:
– First semester scholarship MIDN receives $1250 for room and
board
– Must achieve and maintain a 3.0 GPA in order for the $1250 per
semester to continue

Room and Board
• Villanova Information:
– Must achieve a GPA of 3.25 or greater for first semester to
qualify
– Unit staff then divides a pool of money to all of the qualified
MIDNs
• Last year the pool was at $25,000, and each qualified student received a
sum of $2,083.00 for the semester
– Must maintain a 3.25 GPA or above to continually receive this
stipend
– Can only enter the Room and Board “scholarship pool” your
first semester
