2) Meter – to measure LENGTH or DISTANCE
3) Gram – to measure MASS
Abbreviations:
1) All small letters except Liter = L
2) 1st letter of the perfix + 1st letter of the main
unit
3) One exception: Deka - dk
Abbreviations:
1) Can be used with all the main units
2) They change the size of the unit
3) Moving to the right the units get smaller.
3) Moving to the left the units get bigger.
Ask yourself 3 questions:
1) Where is your decimal in the original #?
2) Which way are you converting (left or
right?)
3) How many jumps is it from the starting unit
to the ending unit?
MOVE your decimal in the direction you’re
converting # the number of jumps you
counted.
