The companies requesting summer trainees contact the dean’s
office
Ms. Musaoğlu announces these company requests as they are
received, to the students on their webpage

The students are selected via a lottery draw

Our department have agreements with a number of companies
The name of the companies and the selection criteria will be
announced through our web page
Administrative Issues
(Prior to Fall 2010)

Get your company approved


Pick the sealed envelope from Ms. Musaoğlu



If the company is not listed among the “approved companies”,
then we MUST get your company approved by course
coordinators
“Staj Değerlendirme Formu”
The latest pick up date of the envelopes is one week before your
summer training start date
In the first day of your summer practice, hand the sealed
envelope to your supervisor in the company

Your supervisor will fill in these forms and post them via mail or
you can hand the sealed envelope to Ms. Musaoğlu personally
Academic Issues
(During the Fall Semester)




We address academic questions relating to the
content of the technical report
Reports are evenly distributed among all faculty
members
Each faculty member evaluates the reports
assigned to him/her by taking assistance from a
graduate student
Course coordinators:

IE 299: Figen Eren; IE 399: Osman Alp.
Requirements



Prerequisites: IE 262 & IE 271
The sealed envelope (Staj Değerlendirme Formu) must
be received by the Dean’s Office no later than the sixth
Monday of Fall Semester
Deadline for submitting the reports is the third Monday of
Fall Semester


Exact date is announced at the start the semester
The students who receive an "unsatisfactory" (U) grade
repeat the summer training during the next summer



Re-registers to the course in the next Fall semester
Summer training during the winter break is not allowed
Two summer practices can be conducted in one summer
Recommendations





Select a manufacturing system with a variety of different
processes
Family owned businesses are not recommended for the
family members
Mid or large sized businesses are suitable
Observe as many departments of the company as
possible
Go over the “Summer Practice Evaluation Form” before
visiting the company and writing your report so that you
can understand our expectations
Grading of The Report - 1

At the end of the first evaluation, if the student receives
a grade
 Below 40: Fail in the report evaluation and
Unsatisfactory in the course.
 Between 40 and 69, inclusive or less than 50%
performance in some class of criteria (i.e., Format
and Organization, Language, Content): Rewrite in
the report evaluation following the feedback provided.
 Greater than or equal to 70 with a minimum of 50%
performance in each class of criteria: Pass in the
report evaluation
Grading of The Report - 2

Those students who receive a Rewrite in the first evaluation submit
their revised reports in two weeks after the notification. The same
faculty member evaluates their reports again
 Below 70 or less than 50% performance in some class of
criteria : Fail in the report evaluation and Unsatisfactory in the
course.
 Greater than or equal to 70 with a minimum of 50% performance
in each class of criteria: a Pass in the report evaluation
