The contests are open to winning participants in the districts for public and schools for private and officially registered participants to the Science and Technology Fair and YES-O Camp. 2. There shall be a separate contests results for public and private schools except for speech choir and cheer dance. 3. First place winners in the public northern and southern clusters shall join the culminating activity in October 3, 2015. The champion will represent the division in the Regional Science Camp for Public Elementary Schools. 4. There shall be a fifteen (15) minute briefing prior to the conduct of any contest activity. 5. Decisions of the Board of Judges are final. Guidelines for the Activities A. SPEECH CHOIR (Dramatic) 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Only one entry per district and school for private schools shall participate. A minimum of ten (10) to fifteen (15) learners shall compose a group. The contest piece shall be provided by the management. Accompaniment and props of any kind are not allowed. Participants should be in their school uniform. Judging shall be based on the following parameters: Clarity and Delivery of the Piece 30% Mastery 40% Precision of Movements 20% Projection and Overall Impact 10% TOTAL 100% B. ENVIRONMENTAL-SCIENCE QUIZ 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Two contestants shall come from grades 4-6 per district and two (2) from private schools shall participate. English shall be used as the official language in the conduct of the quiz. Questions shall focus on science and environmental facts, trivia, laws, current events, initiatives, and other media sources pertaining to environment and ecology. A forty (40) item written questions shall be provided to each contestant. Contestants shall be given one (1) hour to answer the questions. The contestants shall bring their own pens; answer sheets shall be provided by the management. Should a contestant decide to change an answer, he/she shall cross out the answer written with only one (1) horizontal line and the answer shall be written legibly beside the crossed out answer. The contestants with the highest scores (top five) shall be declared winners. C. SCIENCE SKILLS OLYMPICS 1. 2. 3. 4. Three contestants shall come from grades 5-6 per district/school. Materials and procedure will be provided by the organizer. The contestants will create their own title of the experiment and problem/s, conduct the experiment, make their own conclusions/generalizations and defend to the panel of judges. Judging shall be based on the following: Preparation of the write up (problem, conclusion/generalization) 35% Actual conduct of the experiment 35% Oral defense 20% Teamwork/Collaboration 10% TOTAL 100% D. INVESTIGATORY PROJECT (Preliminary Judging) 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Three contestants shall come from grades 5-6 per district/school. There will only be one category – Physical/Applied Team category Submit three copies of the manuscripts, fastened on the left side. Use illustration boards in the exhibit. Strictly no use of tarpaulins, no accessories/decorations, no school name/logo, and exhibits should be simple. Since the judging is preliminary, the judges will not rank the winning projects but will come up with a list of all qualified projects for the final judging during the culminating activity. Judging shall be based on the following: Research Question Design and Methodology Data Collection, Analysis and Interpretation Creativity Presentation a. Poster/Display Exhibit 10 % b. Interview 25 % TOTAL 10 % 15 % 20 % 20 % 35 % 100 % E. ON THE SPOT POSTER-MAKING CONTEST 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Only two (2) contestants per district for public and one (1) for private school shall participate in the contest. The poster should revolve around the theme which will be announced by the contest administrator during the contest proper. The medium for visual artistry shall be oil pastel crayon only. The required base paper to be used during the contest is an illustration board (½ size). Illustration boards will be provided by the management while all other materials to be used shall be borne by the participant. The allotted time for the contest is two hours, after which all entries shall be submitted to the contest administrator. Contestants may decide to submit his/her poster earlier without waiting for the lapse of two hours. Each poster shall be identified by a number that corresponds to the number and identify the contestant for the judging process. Judging shall be based on the following criteria Originality of Idea Relevance to the Theme Overall Impact Total 40% 40% 20% 100% F. SLOGAN MAKING CONTEST 1. Only two (2) contestants per district and one (1) per private schools shall participate in the activity. 2. The slogan shall revolve around the theme which will be announced later by the contest administrator. 3. White cartolina shall be provided by the management and all other materials to be used shall be borne by the participants. 4. The slogan shall not be more than twelve (12) words. 5. The allotted time frame for the activity is one (1) hour only, after which all entries finished or unfinished shall be submitted to the administrator of the activity. Contestants may decide to submit his/her poster earlier without waiting for the lapse of one hour. 6. Each poster shall bear a number but not necessarily the identity of the contestant to eliminate as much as possible subjectivity in judging. 7. Judging shall be based on the following parameters: Visual Impact Relevance to the theme Neatness Originality TOTAL 20% 40& 20% 20% 100% G. ESSAY WRITING CONTEST 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Only two (2) contestants per district and one (1) per private schools shall participate in the activity. The essay should be written in English not be more than 300 words. The participants are given one hour to write. The essay shall revolve around the theme which will be announced later by the contest administrator Management will provide the paper to be used. One hundred percent (100%) of the participants in a district or school should join this activity. School PE uniform is the required attire of the performers.
