friends; something involving financial or physical risk. God
understands if our first answer is “NO”! But, if we are good
stewards of our prayer life, growing constantly in our
communion with God to discern his will for us, we must
ultimately say “YES” LORD!” Only a fool would want to
accept the cup that Jesus knew was in front of him. Jesus
was no fool. But Jesus was in full communion with the
Father, so he was willing to accept the cup, to do His
Father’s will, not his own will. What are we willing to hear from
God? Whatever our initial response, what will be our final
answer?
LITURGY OF THE HOUR: Of the Feast
Luke’s Passion account highlights how much Jesus loved life.
His struggle to say yes to his Father’s will (“take this cup from
me”) was so intense that he sweat blood. He also intensely
loved others and their lives: he healed the man with the
severed ear, comforted the women of Jerusalem, forgave his
executioners, promised Paradise to the repentant thief. Jesus’
struggle and self-giving is to be ours. While intensely loving
the life given us, we also are to give it over for others.

Statement from Bishop Sam Jacobs
FORMING GOOD STEWARDSHIPS
“Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; yet, not as
I will, but as you will”
Luke 22:14—23:56
In the Garden of Gethsemane Jesus teaches us that prayer is not so
much about what we say to God, but about what we are willing to hear
from God. When we are in true communion with God to discern his will
for us He may ask us to do something difficult or unpleasant; something
we have not done before; something that may antagonize our family and
Habemus Papam! We have a Pope! It is with great joy and
excitement that we welcome Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio as
our new Holy Father with the name Francis 1. At this time in
the Catholic Church’s history that the cardinals would choose
someone from Latin America is of tremendous significance. It
is an affirmation and recognition of the growing church in Latin
America. It is likewise significant that they sought a spiritual
man, a humble man and a man of the people. I believe he will
continue in the path of John Paul II and Benedict XVI have forged leading
the church in proclaiming the sacred teachings which have been part of
the church from the beginning.
Prayer for Francis I
O God, who in your providential design willed that your Church be built
upon blessed Peter, whom you set over the other Apostles, look with
favor, we pray, on Francis our Pope and grant that he, whom you have
made Peter’s successor, may be for your people a visible source and
foundation of unity in faith and of communion. Through our Lord Jesus
Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy
Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

EASTER QUOTA
LITURGICAL MINISTER SCHEDULE
The diocese has informed St. Charles Parish of its quota for Easter
Sunday. The monies collected from these Masses will go to fund the
Education to the Ministry in the Diocese. Each parish is required to give
one’s week average collection to assist with this cost. St. Charles
Borromeo’s quota is $1,825.00. Because this is a normal amount to
cover the parish expenses for Easter week, if our parishioners give
only their normal contribution then we will not have a collection to keep
for the parish. If we do not make our quota, we will need to withdraw
from our regular collection. Thank you in advance for generous
generosity.
