Oral Communication from the Public (5 minute limit)
Any member of the public may speak on matters not on this agenda. No action will be taken.
John Vlahos, PE (PE would like to add new layers for a three year plan – for athletes)
With new rules on repeatability, the PE department would like to introduce a three year plan with new layers for
weight training. This is to offer the student an opportunity to develop as a student and as an athlete. To compete
with neighboring colleges, WVC will need to expand the courses to meet the demand for the student to develop
and grow. The plan would be for four courses: one course off season and additional courses will be in general PE
(cannot be top-code for intercollegiate athletics). Athletes are limited to 350 hours per year with 175 hours in the
season of the sport. The remaining 175 hours would be spread over the additional semesters – off season. The
additional layers of courses would target the off season for the student. Athletes need a three year program to be
eligible for transfer/scholarship.
Diane Rudy, PE (Asking to reinstate PE 044A, Lifetime Fitness – LAB, 1 unit - activity
This course will be co-listed with PE.TH 044 Lifetime Fitness and is a “hands-on” lab. This course will increase FTS
and numbers. This course has already been approved by the curriculum committee several years ago but was
deactivated.
Course is one unit of activity and can be part of Sports Med certificate. Focus will be towards fitness/wellness for
the whole body. Hands on practical experience for those wanting to go into weight training, mentors, etc. This will

be adding to the current class of PE.TH 044 Lifetime Fitness. This course will be geared to the personal trainer
student. This course can be taught in conjunction with PE 4.19 - Fitness Appraisal.
Jim Winkler, PE Asking to reinstate Arena Football (Indoor Football) 1.0 Unit – transfer course
This course has been offered in the past but is deactivated. When the instructor who taught the class left WVC,
the course was deactivated.
This course is in the expertise of Jim Winkler, Football Coach. Since the football team has been cancelled, the sport
will be an alternative for football. This course will be open to all students. Previous course had approx. 30 students
each semester, in addition to the regular football team.
Jennifer Ho, Social Science Introduction of a new course: Sociology of Gender - 3 units
CID transferable to San Jose State, UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz and CSU East Bay. Course will be a lower division and is
already offered at neighboring colleges (DeAnza/Foothill, Ohlone and Canada). This course can be part of the AA
degree and AA-T. The course contains an understanding of impact of gender on American society and global
society. Women and Gender Studies program has approved that this course be offered in the Social Science dept.
Curriculum Committee asked for communication with Women and Gender Studies program in writing.
Ann Malmuth-Onn, PE Dance Dept. – Introducing two additional courses in each of the following:
Ballet, Modern Dance and Jazz.
All classes will be transferable and will be included in the Dance Certificate. One requirement for the
certificate is that the student must have 5 units at the intermediate level. In the past the students were
allowed to repeat the intermediate level. Now, WVC must create levels of completion. It takes a
student more than one semester to move into the intermediate level of dance. Adding these courses
will equal four courses in each family.
5) Consent Agenda:
M/S/P: Bob Anthony/Brad Weisberg
Action items will be acted upon in one motion unless they are removed from the Consent Agenda. Information
items will not be discussed unless they are removed from the Consent Agenda.
