A word from the Pastor
In the past few weeks, it’s been a little messier around
here than it has been in a little while. A part of the building is
being demolished to create the space for the new elevator,
and the dust is flying and it can get a lot noisier around here
these days. Thanks for your patience through these transition
days, and, of course, we’ll do our best to keep you in the loop
as things are unfolding.
The construction work is a good reminder that when we
move forward, sometimes that demands that we knock some
things down to build new things in place or that we turn over
some earth to prepare the ground for what is to come. In the
cosmic arrangement of events and circumstances, it seems to
me really appropriate that all of this construction hubbub is
happening now at this time of the year. Autumn life around us
everyday reminds us of change in the turning over of new
leaves; the church year is coming to an end and the new life
of a new year will soon begin; and our congregation
celebrates its 146th anniversary of Christian ministry on
November 8.
I really hope you’re able to be a part of the day on the
anniversary Sunday, November 8. We will share a great meal
and table fellowship after worship, and that will be delightful.
I hope you’ll also plan to be in worship that Sunday as we’ll
start an end-of-the-church-year series of sermons and
worship experiences that I’ll call, “Turning It Over.” We’ll let
our hearts marinate over scriptural and life examples of how
people have found new purpose and direction in identifying
God’s call in their life and devoting their hearts to God’s
purpose, and we’ll see how God can always take any situation
and bring redemption and hope through it.
Hope that you’re able to be with us those last three
weeks of November and I’m thankful for the way God is
always turning something over in your life to prepare you for
new ways of sharing the good news of Jesus’ love.
Peace,
Brad

146th Anniversary Worship Service
Sunday, November 8th, 9:00 a.m.
A Thanksgiving Prayer
Oh, God, when I have food,
help me to remember the hungry;
When I have work, help me
to remember the jobless;
When I have a warm home,
help me to remember the homeless;
When I am without pain,
help me to remember those who suffer;
And remembering, help me
to destroy my complacency
and bestir my compassion.
Make me concerned enough
to help, by word and deed,
those who cry out
for what we take for granted.

God can change us, too
George Foreman, the famous boxer, made sports
history when he was 45 years old and won the heavyweight
championship of the world.
As a youth, Foreman was a mean, ugly, cantankerous
person. Then Jesus came into his life and changed him from
an arrogant man to an ambassador for Christ.
He spent the last years of his life preaching and sharing
the Gospel on the streets of Houston, Texas. He built a
church with his own money. He built a youth center to keep
kids off the streets and off drugs.
His friends and family call George a gracious,
articulate, genuine man. His daughter, Natalie, says, “The
important thing in George Foreman’s life is praising God.”
Praising God never falters or fades away. Whether you
are a heavyweight boxer or an ordinary citizen, the Good
News message is a knock out for every generation. The good
news is the oxygen needed for the exhausted and weary soul.
God came into our world to bring joy. SHARE THE GOOD
NEWS.
