Operating
Principles
CRI has developed a number of operating principles that it

Purpose of Job
The post holder work with an open minded and enthusiastic
approach to support effective re-integration of service users from
criminal justice and community settings into mainstream recovery
treatment services
As directed by the Team Leader the post holder will work within
police custody, courts, prisons and be responsible for providing
assessment and engagement of clients as well as delivering
intensive community outreach to address all outstanding support
needs.
They will carry our comprehensive client assessments and court
reports on substance misusing offenders referred in, provide care
plans and treatment plans for the court, coordinate those awaiting
sentence, re-engage those who drop out of treatment and work
closely with key partners, including probation, courts and Police.
The focus of all interventions will be:

To reduce substance related harm to the individual and
wider community

To promote healthier life styles and increase service user
choice

To promote and support individuals into both abstinence
based and medically assisted forms of recovery

To provide effective case management and coordination of
the individual’s treatment plan

To promote carer and service user involvement

To identify service users with an interest in SUI and/or peer
mentoring.

Support individuals to identify and access recovery capital
within their own communities.
In fulfilling these aims the post holder will use recognised
evidenced based interventions and up to date validated
information and will have specific responsibility for the
development, delivery and coordination of recovery focussed
care.
Developing and nurturing sound relationships and protocols with
all internal and external stakeholders and partners to ensure
effective and integrated treatment pathways is an important
feature of the post.
The post-holder will contribute to the service to ensure that
substance users consistently receive high quality services that
adhere to the best practice guidelines and achieve high
professional standards. You will be responsible for contributing to
the overall performance of the service to ensure that contractual
output targets are achieved. You will be required to record and
input client data and information in order that the service operates
within contractual, administrative and financial requirements.
The post-holder will be required to work flexibly across
operational sites as required and work flexibly within an agreed
number of hours to maintain the most appropriate level of service
provision. This may include some evening and weekend working

in regular supervision and appraisal.
Key Activities:

Complete initial assessments and brief interventions within the custody suite.

Engaging alcohol /substance misusers into effective, evidence based & recovery
focused treatment programmes.

Ensuring that all activities, and interventions are suitably recorded and in accordance
with CRI policies, procedures and national guidelines from PHE, DoH, NICE, NMC
and as directed by the local management team

Effectively Assess, Plan and review all stages of clients treatment journey using
designated tools and within agreed timescales.

Provide recovery coaching using a broad range of psychosocial interventions.

Provide evidence based harm reduction services.

Work with partnership organisations to develop and sustain effective comprehensive
treatment pathways and broaden the client’s recovery plan accordingly.

Ensure that all safeguarding issues, including child protection and protection of
vulnerable adults, are dealt with in accordance to CRI policies and procedures, and
local and national statutory requirements.

Assist and carry out appropriate screening processes including urine and saliva tests.

Recognise personal and professional boundaries at all times and work within CRI
clinical governance framework at all times

Always treat service users with respect and dignity.

Ensure that ALL data requirements are met within deadlines.

Produce evidence in monthly supervision, and when necessary, to clearly illustrate
that performance targets are being met.

Present a professional image and actively promote the service at all times to service
users, other stakeholders, partnership organisations and the general public.

Produce relevant reports, action plans and developmental service frameworks in
response to needs of the organisation and managerial requests.

Actively participate in regular supervision and be willing to personally reflect on
interpersonal dynamics within the therapeutic relationship alongside other
supervision requirements as detailed in CRI policy.

Work within CRI’s professional development framework participating in active
learning and developing professionally, in accordance with service and organisational
requirements and current skills and abilities.

Uphold data protection legislation and only share client information as per CRI policy,
local and formally agreed information sharing protocols and client confidentiality
agreements.

Regularly use IT systems including Word; Outlook; electronic case management
systems etc

To utilise a flexible approach and where required participate in activities and tasks
which directly respond to client and service need.

To actively promote equality of opportunities and diversity

Ensure regular consultation with service users.

To contribute positively to relevant internal and external forums.

To undertake any other duties as instructed by the management team that will
contribute to fulfilling the project aims..

Providing these services across a range of operation locations as designated by the
contract.

Person Specification
Essential criteria:
 Considerable experience of working with substance misusing offenders.
 Demonstrable knowledge of the Criminal Justice System.
 Experience of engaging in and delivering programmes that enhance motivation, seek
positive change and maintain stability.
 Experience of delivering group and individual based interventions to a client group that
can be both challenging and demanding.
 Experience of delivering assertive engagement within difficult settings
 Experience of engaging challenging to engage client groups into services
 Understanding of best practice in relation to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
 Knowledge of the needs of different communities of interest in relation to substance
misuse and offending.
And the ability to:
 Communicate confidently and effectively, verbally and in writing.
