APES Summer Assignment
Hello Future APES Scholars!
We will soon embark on a difficult journey. However, at the end of it you will all be
able to say that you have a college level understanding of our environment! To get
us started I need the following tasks completed by the FIRST day of school. We’re
going to hit the ground running so there is no time to waste!
Note: Failure to complete summer assignments may result in you being dropped from
the APES course. If you have difficulty completing the assignments you must speak
with Mr. Parker before school begins (parker.anthony.g@gmail.com)
Task 1: Create a Haiku account. If you haven’t created one already make sure you
have one by the first day of class! Go to https://www.haikulearning.com/ to create
one.
Task 2: Read and take notes on the Chapters 1-3 in the textbook. You should be
spending approximately 2 hours per chapter. There will be an open note quiz the
first week of school on these chapters. When creating your notes organize them in
such a way that best supports your ability to use them to study and review class
content material.
Task 3: Watch one of the following Environmental Movies and write a 1 page film
review. You are encouraged to watch these movies with friends, family, or other
APES students. Your review should include (1) What you enjoyed about the film, (2)
What you learned from watching the film, (3) How you think it will relate to our
APES class, and (4) How do your real-life actions relate to the topic discussed in the
film.
Recommended Environmental Movies
 An Inconvenient Truth
 Dirt! The Movie
 Crude
 The Cove
 Forks over Knifes
 Gasland
 No Impact Man
 Poison Fire
 A River of Waste
 Erin Brockovich
Note: Most of these films contain controversial content. Please ask your parent to
approve the movie you want to watch before viewing them
Good Luck!
