Emphasis is on learning to select the appropriate statistical method of solving a given business problem, applying the chosen method, and interpreting the solution. QMB2100 is the basic statistics course offered by the Department of Business. It applies basic statistical methods to business problems with emphasis on learning to select the appropriate problem solving method, applying the chosen method, and interpreting the solution. The class is equivalent to STA 2023 except that we focus on how to use statistics in the business environment. Prerequisites MAT1033 Intermediate Algebra or acceptable score on the placement test is required. MAC1105 is recommended. CGS 1060 Basic proficiency of MS Excel is assumed. I encourage you to purchase access and become familiar with the website as soon as possible. There are quizzes, exercises, and supplementary materials to help you understand each chapter. REQUIRED CO-REQUISITE (QMB-2100L) Students must complete a total of 15 hours during a semester at the Business Resource Center on the second floor of the Library at North Campus. I recommend you do assignments and homework’s there. The grade you receive for the Lab is the same as the grade for the class when you complete the 15 hours. If you do not complete the 15 hours you will receive a grade of F for the Lab. The use of cellular telephones and pagers is not permitted in this class. In particular, you may not leave and re-enter the classroom for the intended purpose of using a cellular telephone. Your full attention is expected in the classroom. Tentative Schedule: The schedule may change depending on the individual circumstances of the class. IMPORTANT NOTES: The students are encouraged to take class notes and read the book before class. Class notes and power points will constitute the majority, if not all, of the material covered by the exams. Make sure you get someone else’s phone number, in case you miss a class you will have someone to copy the notes from. The students are also responsible for the material in the book, to expand your knowledge the CONNECT assignments may have material that may or may not be covered in class. The school attendance policy says that any student may be dropped from the class if he has too many absences, this policy also applies for our class.
