Course Outline: Module 11 Endocrine System AHS 115 Medical Terminology The primary goal of this module is: Identify the structures of the endocrine system; and describe the endocrine system disorders and diseases, test, procedures and drug categories. Module 11 – Endocrine System Introduction We typically think of our body systems as concrete, tactile things. Well, this module focuses on some of the chemistry that is constantly changing in our bodies. The endocrine glands secrete hormones that regulate many body activities such as metabolic rate, water and mineral balance, immune system reactions and sexual functioning. Learning Objectives After completing this module, students will be able to: 1. Identify and define the combining forms, prefixes and suffixes introduced in this module. 2. Correctly spell and pronounce medical terms and major anatomical structures relating to the endocrine system. 3. Identify and describe the major endocrine organs and their functions. 4. List the major hormones secreted by each endocrine gland and describe their functions. 5. Identify and define endocrine anatomical terms. 6. Identify and define selected endocrine pathology terms; diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; and medications. 7. Define selected abbreviations associated with the endocrine system.
