• Making a Wet Mount
– Look at the many of the types of epithelial cells in
a frog
• Fetal Pig Dissection Prep
Squamous
• Squamous—cells are wider than tall (platelike) – “squashed”
Cuboidal
• Cuboidal—cells are as wide as tall, like cubes
Columnar
• Columnar—cells are taller than they are wide,
like columns
Ciliated
• Ciliated- Have cilia
Layers
• Simple—one layer of cells
• Stratified—more than one layer of cells

• Examine the handout of all the types of
epithelial tissue!
• You will be making Wet Mounts of many of
these tissues today and Thursday

Making a Wet Mount
• Place sample on slide
• Place a drop of liquid on sample
– Dye, Water, Saline solution
• Place cover slip on sample (no air bubbles!)
• Examine under microscope
Try it out!

of epithelial cells as you can!
• Do you notice any difference?
