Thank you for entering this year’s Doncaster Y5/6 Cheerleading Finals. This year’s festival will be held at VENUE
TBC on Thursday 25th February 2016 1:30-3:30pm . Schools will be expected to arrive at 1:15pm prompt this will
allow the competition to start and finish on time.
Pupils will be expected to be changed and ready to play when they arrive at the ground as changing facilities will not
be available on arrival. All equipment will be provided on the day by the school so schools do not have to bring
their own.
The event lasts for 2 hours so children should bring refreshments for the competition. The event will take place
INSIDE so young people should bring appropriate clothing and products for the weather including hats, sun cream
and coats.
Attached to this letter are rules and further information about the competition. IT IS EXPECTED THAT SCHOOLS WILL
BE AWARE OF THE RULES AND THAT CHILDREN UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY SHOULD BE DOING.

Rules :
Next Step Cheerleading
Cheerleading is a sporting activities that incorporates dance, vocals expression, jumps, tumbling,
stunts, and pyramid development. Next step cheerleading is spilt into 2 categories Pom dance and
Cheer. Pom dance focuses largely on the dance component of cheerleading and does not include
elements of stunts, pyramid or tumbles. The use of poms is compulsory at some point within the
routine. The use of props such as banners and signs are encouraged in both pom dance and cheer
routines.
At all levels, routines should show strength, power, endurance, agility, flexibility, synchronisation,
showmanship and TEAMWORK.
Team Requirements
The children involved in the competitions should be from a school group or extra curricular club.
Teams can be single or mixed sexed and consist of minimum of 5 performers maximum of 15
performers
Attire
PE Kit, Dancewear or Cheer Uniforms. Appropriate footwear is essential – dance shoes, trainers or
pumps. Bare feet NOT allowed. All jewelry must be removed.
Competition Format
Each team will be given 20 minutes for general warm up and will be allowed to run through their
routine without music.
Please note that South Yorkshire are only running POM routines at level 1
Music
Please note that it is now not possible to use music composed by the following sequences:
 Andrew Lloyd Webber
 Cirque De Soleil
 Disney / Pixar
But the music may or may not include words/vocals.
Floor routine will be marked out of 10.00, with the breakdown of the marking as follows:

Complaints
A member of the school’s teaching staff must make any complaints regarding a competition to the
Competition Organiser. Under no circumstances should the judges be approached regarding their
scores. If feedback is requested in order to improve the teacher may approach the head judge.
Entry to a competition implies that you as school have read & understood the rules of the
competition.
Level 1 – Pom Dance
Perform any style of dance incorporating chants and cheers, cheer arm motions, jumps and use of
poms (poms optional for males). Routines should be dynamic, performed to up-beat music and
should be creative with use of visual effects and levels. Stunts, pyramids and tumbling are not
allowed!
If the rules of the competition are not complied with your team will incur a deducted. Floor size at
SY finals will be approximately 7x9m. Please refer to competition organiser for local floor sizes.

 1 chant and cheer
 3 changes of level (high/low)
 Cannon or ripple visual effects
 3 different formations selected from the formation cards (next step pack available from
British-gymnastics.org) or create your own!
