JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE OF POST: REWARD & BENEFITS MANAGER
RESPONSIBLE TO: HR DIRECTOR
RESPONSIBLE FOR: HR SYSTEMS & CONTRACTS OFFICER
LOCATION: LONDON ZOO
PURPOSE OF JOB
Reporting to the HR Director the post holder will be responsible for providing high quality reward &
benefits services for ZSL, both in the UK and overseas. The post holder will be the in house
specialist on developing ZSL’s long term reward and benefits strategy, policy, system and analytics.
Also responsible for managing the annual compensation processes, whilst ensuring cost effective
solutions are adopted.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES











Work closely with the HR Director and leadership team to develop and implement a new pay
and reward strategy.
Take responsibility for the design and delivery of the bonus and sales incentive schemes and
processes and recognition arrangements in line with business targets for the commercial
department.
Manage and implement the annual pay review process accurately and effectively within
budget constraints.
Ensure market competitor analysis is carried out to attract and retain talent. Maintain
market data and participate in pay and benefits surveys and enable access to current market
pay data to support HR business partners and line managers.
Develop new reward processes and proactively lead the development of new pay, grading
and benefit process and work with the Head of Training & OD to ensure they are integrated
with ZSL’s Competency framework and management behaviour scheme.
Ensure compensation support is provided in terms of job evaluation, grading structures and
incentives.
Ensure all HR pay policy changes are communicated across ZSL and consulted on where
appropriate
Ensure all remuneration and benefits are listed corrected in contracts of employment and
staff handbooks
Ensure the HR systems and analytics are developed to meet the needs of pay and
remuneration requirements.
Conduct pay and benefits benchmarking across all UK and international offices and develop
and maintain competitive packages.
To work closely with the Head of Operations for Conservations Programmes and the Senior
HR Business Partner responsible for all overseas staff in terms of developing appropriate
remuneration solutions in country.





To work closely with the Tax and Compliance Manager in Finance to ensure all overseas staff
have the correct tax and benefits applied.
To review and maintain relationships with external suppliers of employee benefits and
develop other non-cash reward initiatives.
Produce and maintain a total reward statements for all staff
Attend pension trustee meetings and work with Finance to ensure ZSL complies with data
requirements on pensions
To deputise for the HR Director.

Undertake such other duties as are commensurate with the grade of the post, as may be
reasonably required at the initial place of work or at other locations in ZSL, including
participating in the Visitor Experience Duty Manager rota on the occasional Saturday or Sunday.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE







Chartered Member of CIPD
Experience of creating and implementing HR & Reward Policies and managing the changes
Experience of international compensation and remuneration policies
Experience of carrying out salary reviews and surveys
Experience of job evaluation schemes
Excellent relationship and project management skills
Experience of using HR databases and other IT systems
KNOWLEDGE

Good working knowledge of the tax implications and legal compliance requirements of
reward, including salary sacrifice schemes
SKILLS AND ABILITIES








Strong numerical and advanced analytical and Excel skills
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to work effectively with teams and senior mangers
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – both oral and written
Excellent influencing skills and credibility at senior level
Self-Starter
Ability to work under pressure and prioritise own work as well as that work of others
High level IT skills using MS Office – word, , Power point and outlook
