SPANISH 2 STUDY GUIDE FOR FINAL EXAM

There will be 5 parts on the final, as there have been on your chapter tests:
•Escuchar (Listening)
•Vocabulario (Vocabulary)
•Grammar (Gramática)
•Culture (Cultura)
•Reading (Lectura)
All sections will be multiple choice. You will be given a scantron. You are expected to bring two
number two pencils.
The final exams for our class will take place on Friday, December 23 (period 5 at 8:00 a.m., period 6, after
break.) You will be given two hours to complete the final, though most students will not need the entire
time period. Bring something you can do silently after you finish. No phones or other electronic
devices will be permitted.
You should review thoroughly your notes, corrected homework, quizzes and exams, flashcards or study
sheets and textbook in preparation for the final, paying attention to the following:
Preliminary chapter
•conjugate all regular verbs in the present, and irregular verbs, including ser, ir, estar; stem changing
verbs such as poder, acostarse and dormirse(ue), querer, despertarse, tener (ie), servir and
vestirse (i); irregulars in the yo form such as conocer, dar and hacer.
•different uses of ser and estar
•conjugating reflexive verbs
•use gustar to talk about what you and others do
•utilize basic vocabulary to describe people, to talk about how people feel (ser and estar), and to describe
where you and your friends go (ir + a) and what activities you do.
Chapter 1, Lesson1
• know all vocabulary at the end of the chapter (theme: travel, transportation)
•direct object pronouns
•indirect object pronouns
• the “a” personal
•cultural information about Costa Rica, including artist Adrián Gómez, el Jardín de las Cararatas La Paz,
Arenal, «pura vida», ticos, folk art carretas, recreational activities in the nature preserves, general
geographical and climate characteristics.
Chapter 1, Lesson 2
• know all vocabulary at the end of the chapter (theme: tourist travel; hotels, shopping)
• the preterite tense: regular –ar verbs verbs with correct accentuation, and the irregular verbs: ver, ser,
ir hacer, dar
•Interrogative (question) words: ¿Cuál?, ¿Cómo? ¿Qué? ¿Cuándo? ¿Por qué? ¿Cuántos/as? ¿Cuánto/a?
¿Dónde? ¿Quién? ¿Quiénes? ¿Adónde?
•Cultural information about the Parque Nacional Rincón de la Vieja (Old Lady’s Corner) in Costa Rica and
the Parque Nacional Torres del Paine in Chile. Compare climate and appropriate activities in both Parks.

Activities to practice for the final:
1. Work with two study partner. Choose a verb from column A and a subject pronoun from column
B (Use a die or dice if you like). Read them aloud, and have your partners compete to write the
pronoun and correct form of the verb first on a white board. Compare answers. Give three points
for the first correct answer and one point for the second. Check in your textbook if there are any
doubts.

2. Work with a partner. Each of you write on your white board a sentence in Spanish with a direct
object (example in English: I ate two fish tacos.) Switch boards, underline the direct object (I ate
two fish tacos.) and rewrite the sentence with the correct object pronoun. (I ate them.) Repeat at
least twice more. Have a tirad party check your work.
3. Do the activity above using indirect object pronouns. Example in English: I wrote a letter to my
brother. I wrote a letter to him.
4. Make a three columnn graph with four categories

Read the name of a cultural icon from your text to your partner (at chapter beginnings and
throughout the chapter in orange boxes) e.g. Arenal, and have him or her place it in the correct
column on your board. Match up sports and recreacional activities that are available at each place
in the chart.
5. Question game: Play with at least two partners. Write three questions (with correct punctuation
and spelling) and their correct answers on separate scraps of paper. Use a different interrogative
word for each question. Put all the questions together in one hat, and all the answers together in
another. Take turns pulling out one question and one answer. If the answer in any way answers
the question (even if it is silly or nonsensical) you keep the pair. The placer with the most
“matched questions and answers at the end is the winner.
6. Play pictionary or hangman with the vocab at the end of any of the three chapters.
