PDCA
Concept
•
PDCA (Plan-do-check-act or Plan-do-check-adjust): It is a 4-step management
method used for control and continuous improvement of processes and products.
•
Popularized by Dr. W. Edwards Deming who referred to this process as the “Shewart
cycle.” Later in his career modified PDCA to PDSA (Plan, Do, Study, Act)
•
Originally based on the scientific method where it uses “hypothesis-experimentevaluation” in other words “plan, do, and check”
•
The fundamental process is repetition. Repeating the PDCA can bring us closer to the
goal.
•
In Six Sigma, the PDCA cycle is called the DMAIC (define, measure, analyze, improve,
and control)
