PDCA by: Diane Cho 304830 PDCA Concept • PDCA (Plan-do-check-act or Plan-do-check-adjust): It is a 4-step management method used for control and continuous improvement of processes and products. • Popularized by Dr. W. Edwards Deming who referred to this process as the “Shewart cycle.” Later in his career modified PDCA to PDSA (Plan, Do, Study, Act) • Originally based on the scientific method where it uses “hypothesis-experimentevaluation” in other words “plan, do, and check” • The fundamental process is repetition. Repeating the PDCA can bring us closer to the goal. • In Six Sigma, the PDCA cycle is called the DMAIC (define, measure, analyze, improve, and control) PDCA PDCA vs Six Sigma Source: http://www.leaninterim.com/equivalence-pdca-lean-and-dmaicsix-sigma/ References Questions – Thank You!!! • http://www.shmula.com/lean-and-six-sigma-pdca-and-dmaic-comparison/3179/ • Shewhart, Walter Andrew (1980).
