11.4 Activity – Random Babies
You are to work with a group of students, preferably 3 or larger. Each one of you will get a new
probability baby today, but before your baby arrives you must plan a little.
Create a sample space AND list all possible outcomes for the genders of the babies in your group.
Number of members in the group = _________________
Now find the Probability of each event
1) P(All Boys)
2) P(Exactly 1 Girl)
3) P(2 or more Boys)
4) P(equal amounts of girls and boys)
Once, you have answers these questions completely you will then roll a die to find the gender of your
baby. Even=Girl and Odd=Boy. Then name your baby.
Absentminded Nurse Activity
You will take turns being a nurse you is just not having a good day at work. All the members
(except for the nurse) of the group will put their babies into a pile and the nurse will shuffle them up. The
nurse will then randomly give a baby to each member.
Find the experimental probability that NOONE will get their baby back.
