4. Updates on the efforts of the Staff Senate regarding the policies for maternity leave, flex
time, and crisis leave
a. Updates from Jennifer Normand in HR:
i. State law would have to be changed for LSU to change sick leave policies;
they have tried and been unsuccessful in the past
ii. Crisis leave is annual leave; not everyone automatically qualifies
iii. A committee looks over all requests using proper medical information on
a first-come-first-served basis
iv. A person must be out of work for at least 10 days but no more than 12
weeks (or 240 hours) to qualify for crisis leave
v. Hours donated to crisis leave are donated to a pool, not an individual
person, and are taken in as dollar amounts
vi. We currently have ample time in the pool – This fiscal year $30,000 was
donated and only $21,000 used.
