University Council on Gender Equity Meeting Minutes November 16, 2015 Present: Christine Corcos, Noelle Davis, Emily Elliott, Emily Frank, Lynn Livingston, Mandi Lopez, Tammy Millican, Summer Steib, Dereck Rovaris, Brenton Sumler, Sarah Ferstel, Kristine DeLong, Dana Hart 1. October meeting minutes a. Approved 2. Women Leadership Panel a. The email with the invitation has been sent out for UCGE members to forward on for the December event. Faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend. b. AS 499 has been approved for lunch from Whole Foods. c. Other possible venues were discussed in the event the RSVPs are more than the Women’s Center can hold. d. Media presence was discussed. i. The Reveille ii. The Office of Strategic Communication (Strat-Comm) e. A panel will be held in February for Women of Color in Leadership – date TBD. i. It will probably be a Tuesday or Thursday so it doesn’t conflict with any events planned for African American Cultural History Month. ii. Panelists are still being discussed. f. The Women’s Center will also host a cocktail reception for Women’s History Month. 3. Updates on the LSU Child Care and potential public/private partnership. a. A committee has been formed to examine the childcare center and potential public/private partnership with input from faculty and staff. i. The first meeting was November 17th. b. The childcare center is having problems. i. Teachers are resigning. ii. Possible financial problems iii. Concerns over the structure of the program. 4. Updates on the efforts of the Staff Senate regarding the policies for maternity leave, flex time, and crisis leave a. Emily has spoken with the Policies and Benefits subcommittee on Staff Senate. b. These issues are still on the radar – they have not been dropped. c. It’s important to present a united front. d. Potential partnership with new official body “Practices and Policies” on Faculty Senate 5. Updates from Subcommittees a. Research Peer Institutions i. Documents like the AAUW’s September Report to be sent to UCGE Members ii. Webinar from the Women’s Bureau Department of Labor 1. California and Minnesota are states that are doing things right. iii. Lynn Livingston, Mandi Lopez, Dana Hart, and Kristine DeLong met to follow up on a data request for LSU’s salary data b. Wage Gap Education- Tammy Millican, Christine Corcos, and Brenton Sumler (Petra Robinson also) c. Women in Leadership- Summer Steib, Sarah Ferstel, Emily Frank, and Dereck Rovaris 6. Announcements from Dr. Rovaris a. Problems at other universities i. Mizzou, Yale, Alabama, Louisville ii. Be vigilant and communicate b. When something happens at LSU how do we respond? i. PMAC rally, Daughters of the Confederacy, fraternity banner, noose incident ii. A meeting was held with campus leaders to create a game plan iii. President Alexander is holding a meeting with student leaders on November 20th. iv. President Alexander and the flag exchange during the Arkansas game provide additional evidence of vigilance towards sensitive issues. 7. Announcement from Summer a. Good Kids i. Came out of the Big 10’s “Female in Arts” initiative ii. Running at LSU through November 22nd. b. The theatre department held a mandatory meeting on November 19 th about sexual assault and social media. 8. Break out into subcommittees. 9.
