NEWSLETTER www.ascension-island.gov.ac/government/school Saturday, 12 March 2016 Dear Parents and Carers, On Friday 30th October, Ms Cinthia Llas Community Forests Coordinator and Mr Lourence Malan, Cloud Forest Project Manager from Saint Helena came to Two Boats School and explained to us how their projects are a Darwin Initiative, run by St Helena’s National Trust. They used a Power Point Presentation to show us what the island used to look like and what it looks like now after the restoration work. We learned a lot about the millennium Forest, the endemic plants and the associated vertebras that need protection. There are no land crabs on Saint Helena, and no wild donkeys… but the conservation teams are using fences to stop rabbits and sheep from eating the protected species as best as possible. Cinthia and Lourence are keen free divers and they enjoyed the amazing wild life and various species of fish that Ascension has to offer. During their time here, they also visited their friend Stedson and went up to Green Mountain to help him with the vital work that the Ascension conservation team is undertaking at present. Primary Assembly Next Tuesday will be a special assembly prepared by our Nursery and Reception children. Parents are welcome to attend at 8:45 on the 17th November to support their child as they share what they have been learning this term with the whole primary school. Hopefully, this will ensure that there is no disruption to the maths curriculum for these students. Please let us know if you would like any further clarification of these arrangements.
