This packet includes: • Curriculum Sheets • What to register for today • Scheduling worksheet to help you build your schedule • Waitlist information • Differences between computing majors • Advisor and Coordinator information • New Computing Student Tips • Student Groups and Involvement in CSE • 2 Year Plans and DegreeWorks information 9 Curriculum Sheets • Each major has a curriculum sheet that includes general education requirements (Areas A-E), major courses, other supporting courses and electives • These curriculum sheets ARE your graduation requirements – FOLLOW THEM 10 Freshmen Registration Look at the curriculum sheet for your major. What to register for today (regardless of CSE major): 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Take KSU First Year Seminar OR classes in a learning community Take a math class Take an English class Take CS/CSE 1301 CGDD majors: also take CGDD 2002 (Fundamentals of Game Design) Don’t take all core first, think about pre-requisite chains 11 Mathematical! You should have taken the Math Advisory Placement Test (MAPT) before today to help you determine the best math class for you to begin with. The math classes which you can register for without the MAPT result are: • Math 1111 – College Algebra • Math 1112 – College Trigonometry • Math 1113 – PreCalculus MATH 1190 Calculus I registration requires a MAPT result placing you in it, as well as a prerequisite bypass given by the Math department. 12 Your First Programming Class • We have 3 versions of the first programming class: – CS 1301 – Java based (traditional). CS Majors MUST take this. It is recommended that IT and SWE majors take this version. – CSE 1301 – Gaming based (C#). It is recommended that CGDD majors take this version (but it counts for SWE and IT too). – CSE 1311 – For College of Engineering students ONLY. 13 Important Tips • • • • • Add / Drop versus Withdrawals GPA and grade forgiveness Holds “R” is Thursday Some classes have lectures AND labs…you must register for both – Chemistry (CHEM 1211 and CHEM 1211L) – Biology (BIOL 1107 and BIOL 1107L) – Physics (PHYS 1111 and PHYS 1111L) • PHYS lecture also includes a “recitation” time which is a time set aside to review what was done in the lab 14 eCore Online Courses • http://www.kennesaw.edu/ecore/ • eCore is another option for some core classes. These are ONLINE courses. • Take eCore Orientation Quiz BEFORE registering for eCore Online courses 15 The University Honors Program http://www.kennesaw.edu/honors/ 16 Student Groups and Involvement • Many active student organizations for computing students – check hand out sheet for more info about: – Association of Computing Machinery – Association of Information Technology Professionals – Game Design and Development Club – Women in Technology – College of Computing Competition Team – And more! 17 Where? • • • • Where do I pay?
